Hello, I am new to v8 powered buicks. I purchased a 72 custom a few months ago after my Gn was stolen and after realizing it wouldn't be coming back.

One of my questions is about pulleys and the power steering pump. Can I use pulleys off a 350 motor on the 455 without any issues.. What about the power steering pump? Can I use the 350s pump with 455 brackets?? I have been trying to research the issues without asking to many questions that I can find on my own.. One writeup I saw said all brackets will bolt up on a 350-455 swap .. On the other hand I saw a few posts about some problems with alignment.. I am trying to get a few things lined up before an engine swap>>

    Thanks,

    Alan

    Welcome to the board Alan!

You can do the swap with pretty much any brackets as long as you don't mind making some spacers, shims, or whatever, to line up the pulleys.
I did my first 455 transplant when I was 18 into a 67 Skylark. I used all the 300 brackets to mount the PS and Alternator. None of the belts lined up quite right so I had to shim things out.

But most of the "correct" brackets are pretty commonly avaliable if you wanted to do it "right".
    Good luck!

    Hi Alan

I used my old 350's power steering pump when I swapped my 455 into my '70. I used the brackets from the 455 I had bought-well, I bought the whole car for the engine- and the "BCE" stamped brackets I used, from that '73 Riviera, lined up just fine for the 350's ps pump. I might have gotten lucky:Do No:

Do you have a Skylark Custom? Back in the day, a lot of Buick models could be a "Custom", a LeSabre Custom 455 or a Electra 225 Custom, for example. Buick made 41 cars if you count the GSX late in the model year, in 1970 alone! I count 20 various Custom models in 1970, don't know for sure about '72. Doesn't really matter, you'll like your Buick:TU:

    Hi Alan,

I remember you from when your GN was stolen and you posted at Turbo Buick.com I kept a close look out for any signs of your car. Sorry about that for you but glad to see your back with an old A Body! Do you have a nice metal grille in that '72 Custom? If not, I can steer you to a local yard that has a nice one (undamaged) that could be had for around $20-30. Also, I posted on your recent thread- if you need any of the parts for your conversion, I can refer you to a friend in Byron who has most of all you would need.
