Hello everyone, my name is Reid, I’m from Houston, and I just recently joined.
I just turned 24 and finally have time to start working on the 1972 GS 455 convertible my dad bought years ago and ended up doing nothing with. He was nice enough to hand it over to me and I’ve already started setting it up how I’d like it. I don’t have much experience actually working on vehicles, so I’m a little lacking in the engine knowledge department but I figured this would be a great place to learn anything I need to.
I’ve already added oil pressure and water temp gauges, swapped all of the exterior lights to LED, replaced the radiator with a 4-row aluminum one, and just this weekend installed a Bluetooth amp and new speakers as the radio had stopped working. I still need to get the hydraulics for the top working, fix a few small coolant/oil leaks, install an in-dash tach, and get the rust on the body taken care of.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to learning from all the experienced people on this forum!

Welcome to the site from a Canadian. I am also a noob with mechanics (an old noob, but a noob none the less). The people on this forum are the greatest you could ask for. Always ready with advice when required.

Welcome from Florida. You know that your car is fairly rare. I believe they only made 126 of those. This is going to be one of your best resources for bringing the car back.

Welcome. This community can help you along your journey. Hopefully, you can involve your father from time to time on this journey. It's very rewarding to work on these cars as a father and son team. I was so fortunate to have done it twice with my dad.

Thanks everybody! Here’s a few pics of the car in the garage, I actually don’t have too many of it.

And yes I’m lucky to have my dad, he’s always been great. He actually has a 4 speed 1972 GS 455 Stage 1 of his own that’s in pretty good shape, although he doesn’t have the time to drive it so it mostly sits.
By the way, which forum would be best for asking dumb questions that should be obvious? Every now and then I come across something that should be simple but I’m lost on haha

There are no dumb questions, only questions you don't ask. Nice car.

Welcome Reid! I’ve been on this board since I was 15 (turning 30 in a few months). Like you, my dad got me into Buicks and helped me buy my first GS 15 years ago. We just recently revived his 72 GS 455 convertible. Feel free to reach out for anything, love to see another younger guy on the board.

Welcome! And nice looking ride! I just had to look, looks like almost 5 yrs on this site for me. Took me that long to put mine back together lol from a frame off. And I will say I ask a lot of dumb questions (even asked one today) and everyone on here is great and helpful. I’m not too savvy either but jumped right in rebuilding and putting stuff together with lots of help from V8. I would still love to learn how to rebuild a motor and trans.
