With the help and generousity of Mark Macoubrie (GSX Registry), there is now an exclusive domain for the Buick factory Stage1 registry -

http://www.stage1registry.com/

For those who have added links to the Stage1 registry website on their websites - THANK YOU. I would ask that you please update your links page with this new website name.

Currently, over 190 cars are registered, with a couple I'm still trying to 'track down' :Brow:

Here's the deal -

***********************************

This is a request for anyone who owns a factory Stage1 to please consider joining the Stage1 registry. The purpose of the registry is to document all surviving cars, in addition to comparing various original colors/options. Its important we keep a historical record. The registry can be viewed online Here.

This project will succeed only with everyone's help and assistance.

Please note that NO personal information is contained on the registry for general viewing, only a first name and a last initial. The car serial # (last six) is not displayed, nor is the location of the car. Privacy is important!

Available Documentation
• Early 1970 (VIN before 193,xxx) - Contact the Sloan Museum at (810) 237-3450 (ask for the collections department) or at their Website. They charge $25 to research a VIN.
• Late 1970 Contact Wayne Roberts at 248-879-2113. He charges $50 to research a VIN.
• 1972, 1973, and 1974 VIN numbers alone depict engine options. Sloan can also provide all sales codes if you're interested in what options your car was was originally built with.
• 1969 & 1971 - No 'third party' documentation is available, so the following documents are proof - window stickers, Protect-O-Plate, build sheet, import sheet, Body Production Order, or Glove Box option card.
• Please Note For any year, if you attest to either the 'matching VIN' engine code (ending in 'S') or the matching transmission with codes 'BB' or 'OW' in 1971 only, that is a Stage1. I am not looking for proof or pictures. If you state the numbers/stampings indicate a factory Stage1 car, please register.
If you have an authenticated Stage1 car, please send me the following information -
• Owner Name, address, telephone number, E-mail address and Web page (if applicable and you want it listed). Please tell me when your car was first purchased by you (CCYYMMDD).
• Full VIN and COWL plate information, specifically Fisher Body #, trim code, paint code, and cowl build date. Also, list anything special about your car youd like to share (driver, restored, basket case, drag car, etc)
• All Option Codes Option codes are contained on the New Car Order Forms found on the registry website. All years are available, including 1970 GSX. If someone wants to register their GS, and does not have internet access, please call me (732-817-8104) and I will gladly mail or fax you a copy of the New Car Order forms.
• Source of Documentation (Sloan, Window Sticker, Matching SS block, matching BB transmission, etc.)
• If you wish, Here is an internet form you can fill out
Some final points to consider -
• Again, NO personal information is contained on the registry for general viewing, only a first name and a last initial. The car serial # (last six) is not displayed, nor is the location of the car. Privacy is important.
• It's FREE! I only ask for your help.
• For those who have the 5-digit dealer code (xx-yyy), please include the dealer name/address so we can continue to build the most complete Buick dealer information database available.
• I am able update this registry once a week, so please be patient if you send me any information.
• Questions/concerns/comments? Please send me an email.
• No guarantee is made for any information contained in the registry.
• Tell your Friends!

THANK YOU!

I like the idea!

But I STRONGLY suggest you at least make CORRECTIONS on things you KNOW are wrong. In the stage 1 identification, you have documented cars from BOTH the Fremont & Framingham plants for the 71-72 yrs. There are also a few typo's in that paper that are not right either. Why keep repeating the same mistakes?:Do No: :Dou:

Or we could leave it as is, then show a NEW version following it pointing out the few mistakes and corrections. There were quite a few changes for the 71 model yr. It just seems everything revolves around the 70 model yr.:gt: :spank:

Re: I like the idea!

Thanks for the changes/support everyone!

No worries Dan!

Now that I'm not limited to 10 megs webspace, I can 'expand' on many things to try to create a very comprehensive Stage1 identification website. We have all learned many things in the past several years. With all due respect to the author of that article (Mark D.), it was written in either the late '80s/early '90s when many things were not yet known (or out in the open) as they are today.

I eventually want all identification/research information local to this site so I can get the information when I need it, regardless if another website is down. This 'outage' has happened several times to me already where I needed information I've linked to but the linked site was down. :spank:

I've already expanded the paint color section to include paint chips from all year Gran Sport models. Check it out.

Also, look for additional changes as I will update many things when I get some free time to work.

My main concern at the moment is the get the internet registration form operational.

Thanks, and any/all suggestions or comments are welcome.

Now you're talkin!

:TU: :TU: :TU: Didn't mean to sound overly critical, it is still a good reference paper, but we can make it a bit better.:bglasses:

I'll be adding a "Buicks Links" page to my site Marco, and yours will be among the first links.

Now if I can only find the bloody time!

Just a quick note here wihile discussing websites, I talked to the guys at the GM photostore about using some of their factory pictures on my website (and a link to their site so they could make sales) but they said the pics were all copyright GM and therefore they are not to be used on any other website.

Not sure what happens if you buy it and then copy it, to me that would be ok, but just using their pics off the website could get you big trouble, apparently.

Corrections can and will be made as things progress. You have to give credit for guys that donate their time for websites that help us all, I have been tempted many times to just pull mine...it takes time to keep these things going, and time is in short supply these days.

Thanks to Nitro71455 (Rich), the internet form is working again! Thanks Rich :beer

Tim -

It gets very cloudy with the internet copyright laws. For example, is stating the production numbers on the internet illegal?

I can see pictures, but what about content? ALL pictures on the internet are copyrighted, whether they state it or not. Just go to Google and do a search on 'internet copyright laws'. Basically, you can't post/view anything.

All it takes is someone to complain...

Hey Marco, just curious. I see when I go to the spreadsheet that I can edit anything I want. (I was just looking for a friend who has a friend who wants to eventually register his car if it turns out to be a Stage 1). My only concern is that maybe someone could accidentally edit someone elses info and it wouldn't be correct anymore. Is there any protection to previously entered info on the spreadsheet?

Thanks.

Ken -

I appreciate you spreading the word about the registry :TU:

When you view a webpage on the internet, your computer downloads a copy on your local hard drive.

You are editting the copy on your hard drive, not the internet.

Try it. Try to save the file and it will pick the path on your C drive (as the default directory) where your computer saved the file.
