has anyone used one of the new style variable pitch torque converters? i saw it on a web site the other day, cant remember which manufacturer, but they claim its a switch pitch you can install on any tranmishion. would like some feedback or thoughts on this. sounds like something long over due
havent heard of this but if you could find web site and post a link im sure others would like to find out if it works if it could be used in a 350 trans im sure it would sell
Never heard of anything new. That would be really interesting. hopefully, you can find the site and link it here.
I THINK THIS IS THE SITE I WAS LOOKING AT http://www.paeenterprises.com./paeframe.html READ IT AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK
Nothing new. The switch pitch setup is only applicable to the ST400 (TH400). With the right parts any '68 and up 400 can be converted to variable pitch. This has always been the case. Devon
This same technology has been around for over 40 years. It is the same stuff I posted above from Kenne - Bell Racing above going way back
I would stay away from the '64 ST400. It's a bastard version that doesn't share much with the '65 & later models. If you're working on a nailhead, keep a lookout for a '65 or '66 trans. You might be able to use a '67 or later trans if anyone makes an adapter plate for the earlier engines - I really don't know. Devon
Yes I Know Its A Bastard Version. I Keep Asking ? About It And Noone Knows Much. Does Anyone Have A 65 0r 66 That They Are Willing To Part With ?
Posted this awhile back, you might contact the seller to see if it's still available. Try posting in "Parts Wanted" and keep an eye on ebay. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=138540 Devon
Usually people go the other way from ST300 to ST400. The ST300 converters are 12" and the ST400 are 13" Smaller converter gives more stall.
yea i know, i was just trying to give the fullsize a lil more umph without a tranny swap and it seemed it would be cheaper then a gear swap
The ST 300 convertors and ST 400 converters interchange. The best high stall stock converter to use is the GM-1 converter that was used behind the V-6 cars. Its a 12" converter. I've seen them stall slightly over 3,000 rpm behind a decent street big block. They also made a GM-2 converter (also 12") and they used it behind the small V-8 cars (300/340). Then the 13" converter for the bigger engines called a GM-4. The GM-3 was a non switch pitch 13" unit. The switch pitch setup is an excellent addition for a mostly street and occassional strip big block.
