Just a thought here, while the ls series engine may be a great design, if you were to do a 350 Buick redesign like it, it would no longer be a Buick, it would simply be an ls engine with Buick badging. No sense in doing that at all. Jim Burek
Point taken Jim!! I guess I didn't mean to copy things THAT much. Although I prefer the symmetric layout both the Series II Buick V6 & the LSx engines have, I would expect an aftermarket Buick 350" head to retain the traditional arrangement. Maybe a similar intake port & combustion chamber , with an excellent flowing exhaust would be a more suitable goal. I do very much like the design improvements found on the SII engine, like the front mounted oil pump, etc.
Where are those Big 5 or 6 Heads? 6 to 7 Bolt's around the cylinder's would he grate. Block setup for a Motor Plate out the Box would be nice a 3 main or a 2.750 would be nice 904 Lifter Bore's. 6 bolt mains would be Nice. A Block that could go out to 4.600 Bore. Shorter Deck Sound's good as well What are we looking at for Price for a block ? Where are those Stage 5 or 6 Heads with no Rocker Shaft's 2.300-2.500 Intake's 1.810 to 1.900 Exhaust's? that can be port to flow 400 to 550 CFM? I now i think Big. I think like a Big Chief Head Glad to see you stepping to the Plate Mike T from T/A :beer :3gears:
More add ons Dry sump Oiling Option's 3 cam bearing Bridge's in the Lifter Bore Valley. Rear cover Plate O-Ringed Bearing Plate 4 Bolt's Cam Design like a V6 STAGE 2 with removable Dist gear with a thrust Plate to keep the cam Back in the block. A belt Drive would be Nice as well. No Dog Leg in the Pan Rail Straight pan Rail. Block Drilled and Taped in the center on the side of the block for External water Line's Pan Rails cut for 0-Ring Front of Block Cut for O-Ring. Dowel the Main's
Thanks for listening. I think Bulldog has a good product and that they eventually will fill their orders, but the fact that TA is on here and interacting with everybody goes a long way to inspire confidence in their product. :TU: Sometimes that makes all the difference. As far as 350 stuff goes, this is the order I'd like to see stuff happen (just one guy's opinion): 1. forged pistons 2. single plane (sp1 type) intake manifold 3. forged rods 4. aluminum heads 5. aftermarket block ________ Zoloft Sickness
Someone say 350  now I'm starting to pay attention. I'm in with jadebird for order of development and production. Bruce
As far as the 350 is concerned, I am with Andrew^^^ on this one. Aluminum heads for the 350 would be one of the highest selling products, and 350 single-plane intakes would sell like hot-cakes as well. Definetly keep us updated on the aluminum 455 block. Keep the aftermarket supplies for Buick wide in variety/and selection, and keep on rollin' out as many new products as you can think of! :bglasses: :TU:
With all due respect to Jadebird's list, here's mine. 1. forged rods 2. forged pistons 3. single plane (sp1 type) intake manifold 4. aluminum heads 5. aftermarket block
aluminum BBB... Sounds like you guys have most of the details covered. I would like to second the idea of having a dual pattern transmission mounting surface at the rear of the block. That will allow using all the new electronic transmissions that the boys on the darkside get to play with! A six speed automatic behind a torque monster BBB....you've got my vote!!
My first suggestion would be to redesign the bottom of the block to make it stronger. Design it something like a 426 HEMI, where you would not need to girdle the block. Even if it means you will not be able to use the "factory" oil pan.
Now that's something I totally forgot about! I definetly agree w/ this guy, 6 speed automatic behind a Big Block Buick, oh man, welcome to heaven on earth! My dream car is a '70-72 Skylark w/ a 455/and a new 6 speed automatic :3gears: And w/ an Aluminum 455 block built to my specs, just makes it that much more worth the while! Talk about non-stop fun! :eek2:
Question, Is the bell housing pattern for the new electronic transmission the same as the old standard Chevy? Mike
The 4L80e has the traditional Chevy bellhousing pattern. I believe the new 6 speed version will also. Only 'catch' would be if it has the LSx style pattern.
Hey Mike, while you're at it, stick another cylinder on these V6 heads for us small block V8 guys Greg
