I just joined the site. I've got a 1970 skylark that's still almost stock. I'm just starting to learn about cars, but I need some advice as to what I should do to mine to make it faster.

A good start would be installing an HEI ignition.

According to Yahoo maps, you are only one hour from Board member/moderator Mike Garrison. He always seems to have some good stuff for sale and he just might know a thing or two about a fast Skylark/GS. Just might...............

lookin' for budget , had 70 350 skylark a while ago , added dual exh , trans cooler and basic shift kit , oem cast intake and 4 bbl carb ( i adapted a small afb cause i had one but a q-jet would be better ) and a good tune up . noticable improvment . the only real $$$ part is a GOOD q-jet . (ex: i bought a new/rebuilt by gm qj at a swap meet this spring for a backup for $125.00 ) if you shop you could do all that for $500.00 . later , if your short block is solid , add decent cam and lifters etc , have the heads done , rear gear update and cold air intake . claus is correct , an hei is not that expensive and a good addition . big budget ?? - no problem - just start throwing money around wisely . have fun . del

    Don't forget headers!

TA makes a set for the 350 A body.

    www.taperformance.com

I got a 10-15HP boost when I added headers, X pipe, and dynomax mufflers. I could really feel it too!

Aluminum intake is not a bad addition either. TA also sells them.

Give them a call ans see how much you can spend in one phone conversation:grin:
