Thanks to the Mods for approving me in. I was starting to wonder if it was something I said. Hello. I'm Lrobby99. That is my handle. About a week ago a gearhead friend of mine asked if I was interested in a 1969 Electra Convertible. "Runs", he says. "Needs brake lines. No brakes." So, I went to go look at it. Brian, my bud, goes way back with the owner and originally found this car for the owner some 12 years ago. The guy already had a hardtop, but also wanted a ragtop. To make a long story short, he never got around to this car. This car has been covered outside sitting on blocks most of those years. Did I want it for $2k He would not be talked down, and he had the Title and keys, so I took it. I did a little research first, and the price didn't seem out of line. The car is solid. Doors work nice. I Looked underneath. No holes, not really even sagging. The Fr bumper is off, but it does have one. Has pretty much all the badges, the interior is not perfect but not missing much. The owner got it running a while back and the original Rochester was a mess. He put on a new Holly and a new fuel pump and got it running. The fuel in the tank is beyond just shot. It runs now sucking fuel out of a gas can. And it does come with the original Quadrahog sitting in the trunk. Incredible as it may sound, this is the first Buick I have ever owned, and I'm 62. That's a lot of cars. Owned a lot of GM. Never a Buick or Caddy, or Vette. Just all the others. I already have a lot of questions in mind. Looking forward to some good Buick advice. BTW, that avatar is my Suzuki engine. DL1000. The Buick pics I have are too large. Thanks in advance! Lrobby99
Welcome to the V8Buick board. You came to the right place. From the picture you posted and your brief description it seems as if you got a good deal on your car.
Welcome! A tremendous amount of experience and knowledge on this site. Friendly folk who gladly help…
Welcome - '69 Electra Convertible is a sweet car & this one sounds like a great starting point. Don't discount the Quadrajet. It's actually probably the best carb for that engine. Lots of info on it (& everything else Buick) on here.
Welcome from Long Island,NY.Except for the Caddy,Buick is King of the luxurious ones and fast ones.Bruno.
Welcome. There is no better carburetor for your car than the Quadrajet. The problem is that most think they are all the same, and think nothing of putting a QJ from another year/engine on, and then expect it to run OK. The correct carburetor part number for your car is a 7029240. If that is the carburetor you have in the trunk, send it to Ken Gies, on V8, he is techg8. https://v8buick.com/index.php?forums/everyday-performance-llc.172/ https://www.everyday-performance.com/
Welcome from Florida! Wow, looks like you got a great deal on that car. I used to dislike Quadrajets too, until I realized that when right, they are better street carbs for the cars that came with them, originally. Cliff Ruggles (Cliff R here) did the one on my GS400 and it runs great!
WELCOME! from Tucson, AZ... I too have my original Quadrajet waiting for my father-in-law and I to do a "Father-Son" rebuild. Until then, my Summit carb works just fine and is hidden away under the air cleaner well. (It's actually the only thing on the car not period specific.) -MIG
Questions. I want to get the engine running soon. The fuel pump will be drawing from an auxiliary fuel container until the gas tank has been cleaned out or replaced. Fuel. Is unleaded fuel okay? Would pure gasoline be better? If I recall correctly, gasoline in 1969 was expected to have lead. Lead free will be okay? What Octane? Oil During winter this car will get cold. My thought is 5W-30 for easier starting, and faster oil flow. It won't be driven on roads, just around a small compound. Otherwise, summertime, I'll try 10W-30 and see how she runs. thanks~
