I've just joined the V8 Buick Forum and look forward to sharing information, locating parts, and receiving technical advice from all of you Buick fans. My name is Bob Phelps, I live in Massachusetts, and I'm in the process of restoring a 1971 Buick GS Convertible 4-speed. I acquired the car about 4 years ago and have been disassembling as well as assessing parts needs and gathering technical information. Because the car and I are from Massachusetts, we are both suffering the effects of tough winters, salt, sand and fender benders. So, we have a lot to do. The car is number matching and from what I cab see , is a 1 of 51. I think this car deserves a full restoration. I'm retired and hope that I can complete this project as a tribute to the Detroit muscle cars of the past. I thank you all in advance for your help and support.
Good morning Bob + welcome to V8! You will be able to find the info you need here, you're in the right place. Good luck with your project.
Welcome aboard Bob! I know your pains about long winters, salt and stuff. You have great attitude for your build. Keep us posted! GREAT car for resto.! Bang those gears not the knuckles.
Welcome aboard :beers2: 4 year disassembly may set a record - if you restore it now in a month you've totally reversed the process and may be able to patent your methods o No::grin:
Actually, I spent 2 months with the disassembly and the rest of the time finishing all of the other projects that needed to be finished. I also disassembled a parts car which helped with my parts needs. I'm now retired, which theoretically gives me lots of time to get to work on this thing.ray:
Welcome aboard, and to retirement. You'll find lots of help here. The problem you will have is that even though your retired you will wonder how come you can't get everything done. I suffer from that. Fred
Welcome, thats an awesome car to restore. love the color. I also have a 71 GS Ragtop waiting to be restored but its a automatic- rare car nonetheless. The 4 speed GS's of that year are quite rare and not too many left in our part of the country due to the ravages of salt and time. Im working on a 72 suncoupe 455- 4 speed conversion now, much of its its drivetrain was donated by another 71 GS 4 speed car that was too far gone to save, but its soul will live on in the suncoupe. Again welcome to the Forum. Sam- Westfield MA:TU:
Ditto! It's amazing how little I get done! Did more when I was working. But the secret is not to worry about it, there's always tomorrow to do it!:TU:
