Yes you read that correctly...for those who have been following along with the progress of the Ingenue Buick funny car, we're 2/3rds the way towards completion with the motor being the last piece to the puzzle. I've entrusted John Everett to handle the chore and call the shots, he's most familiar with blown BBB's on nitro and while this process has taken time, it's being done correctly and professionally and the end result should be one thumping nasty Buick on a good load of juice. We picked up a running '67 430 block out of a Riviera from a member here which has been cleaned up by the machine shop and RokBlock filled and is currently curing awaiting final machining. I've gathered up all the hard parts and rotating assembly, and I have a set of aluminum Stage 1 heads from TA. I'll get John to post here and we'll update it as often as possible and I'm sure if we ask nicely, John will even post up some video's of it running. Here's the first picture showing the RocBlock fill just completed, he's waiting until over the weekend to cure, then misting the block with acid to clean up, then pressure wash, blow dry and spray down with Gibbs to protect...more pictures to follow guys.
As John said already in his other post A few bores had slight issues with pitting, the worst one cleaned up at +.021, final clean up at .030 after machining...then time for final assembly! There will still be a great deal of fabrication of brackets and such to make this a 2 person to run nitro car. A few pictures of the cleaned up block below.
I don't believe so but John can answer that....remember, this is just a cackle motor that'll get zinged a few times on a good load of juice, not headed down track any time soon.
Slight side track...here's some coverage from Canepa's cars & coffee event last May 13th when Prudhomme fired up the Super Snake fueler and Ingenue was there! Fire up: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0019_Ps...c3opyiZvRd-gHGPi93cw45oy1sOIOdv4ttqNzee1kaQ== Other pictures including Ingenue...we put a terminally-ill Steve Cowan in the car and there were tears all around: http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0019_Ps...c3opyiZvRd-gHGPi93cw45oy1sOIOdv4ttqNzee1kaQ==
OK guys...thought I'd post up some info so you don't all think I've been eaten by predators, lol! Was in Cabo for a week taking one for the team...happy wife, happy life! Purchased some goodies from Jim Weise @ Tri-Shield Performance on June 9th: Custom ground camshaft (the Schneider one we purchased was for the wrong application) Valve lifter Rollmaster timing set Clevite main bearings Clevite connecting rod bearings Custom Diamond pistons & pins and ring package TotalSeal AP steel ring set 4.250 bore Ordered 10 pistons in total with a hard anodized coating on the entire piston and side low friction coating...those were $115/each. Coming together slowing but steady...I threw in a picture of the polished mag M/T center section just to keep everyone happy,lol...talk soon guys! John Everett will update as progress is being made...
Thanks Bruce...got some new plates ordered up for the tow rig, would post a picture but it says the file is too large...will try something else.
Pistons have arrived...thank you Jim Weise and John Everett! Coated on both the sides and tops for nitro application. Now we're just waiting on those pesky main bearings...
