No rear brakes

GlenL I'm out in the garage

As part of putting on four new tires, I figured to check the brakes and give them a nice bleed. Can't hurt, right? Now I've got nice new tires and an illuminated BRAKE warning light. With the rear hoisted there is no evident friction on the left-rear wheel when my wife reports she's got the pedal to the floor. Crap. No, double crap.

The bleeding itself went OK. Didn't run the reservoir dry and got fluid out at each corner. At the end my 15yo assistant/daughter reported that the pedal felt funny and she was right. Feels like very little pressure is being built until half way down. Would make sense as there's no pressure to the rears so the secondary piston is collapsing into the primary then compressing the front brakes.

I'm thinking that the master may be toast due to working the cup(s) over un-used parts of the master cylinder. Also, I'm not really clear on the use, or existance, of the "rubber button" on my model car. Just noticed that in some searches.

So what do y'all suggest? Give it another bleed? Do it while pressing the button? New master and then start over again?

If I've gotta do the master I'm going to replace the rear shoes and one drum. Maybe the wheel cylinders. Another step towards that frame-off resto the hardcore have been advising.

9 out of 10 times if you loose brakes & the master {if old] travels more than usual it will blow out the master.

as a rule I always replace stuff in pairs calipers, wheel cylenders etc.
take a real good look at the flex lines[2 front 1 back] while your there you should replace them if you haven't yet

Brakes are something I don't take chances with. :Smarty:

While your at it inspect visually ALL metal lines those are no fun when thy rot off! :spank:

    good luck
