'72 Skylark 350 2-barrel, TH 350, 2.56 gears. no smoke at the rear tyres. with 3.08 rear gears and the stock engine can i make that tyres scream a little?
I have a 70 'Lark with a stock '73 engine with 4 barrel. I think I have a 3.08 rear. I never tried to smoke the tires, but can spin them easily - and the car is not fast.
Sol, Cheapest way to do burnouts with that 2 barrel 350: <img src="http://www.wanda-tools.com/ebusiness/product_images/b/wt0130-f.jpg"> Just put the pliers at the flexible brakehose at the rearaxle, spray the tyre with bleach, hit the brakes and go for it... Or get yourself a 4 bbl intake + carb and a mild camshaft :Smarty:
The vise grip trick reminds me of being 16 and driving my 55 Special. I got alot of razzing from my buddies for driving such a tank but I loved that car. One day I greased the rear tires when no one was looking and waited for just the right time to pull out of the Big Boy parking lot. Told every one I had planted a Riv 425 in it, glad nobody was smart enough to look at the tracks! The good ole days are gone but never forgotten. P.S. Them guys didn't know one nailhead from another so I got away with it for a while.
So you want to scream the tires:Brow: Any Buick motor should do that, even with 2.56 gears. Take a good look at your timing curve, or get the distributor recurved to bring your advance in before 2500 RPM. Second thing is to change the torque converter, maybe a TCI Saturday night special with a stall speed around 2000 RPM. Do those two things and you'll be buying rear tires:laugh:
so much thanks for the replies! with 4 barrel carb, intake, headers, cam, recurved timing, torque converter and some grease i can make lots of spark and smoke with my rear tyres desintegrated and the wheels kissing the ground!!! the Bad Boattail's method is not in my plans... but a Line Lock maybe:beer
OK its got low(ish) gears, Postons cam and a 4 barrel, but my 340 powered '66 LeSabre will smoke at the slightest provocation. And lots of smoke The kind that hands around in the air after you left Some basic tuning and you are there
