Congratulations to Tom Rix and wife Carol on their Top Stock Win at the IHRA World Nationals at Norwalk Raceway Park. They ran a 9.85 at 132 in their 1970 Buick GS Stage II. in the finals of a 16 car field(info on Dragracecentral.com) on 10.5 tires too. All the best to you thru the rest of the season. To see this great car check out IHRA.com and see where the next national event will be featuring Top Stock. I think Maryland International Raceway and the Rockingham, NC. are the last stops of the season. seeing this car in person is a must for any true Buick Racer. Again Congratulations Rix family and crew. chris:grin:
Ton uses 9" drag radials for that class. That is the rule. Outstanding feat in itself. The underdog conquered the class !! J
Super guy :TU:, hope to see him at "The Rock" in October. Congradulations Tom, and I thought a 10.0 was good! My Chevy friend will love hearing this. Remember I owe you a soda for that part you sent. Thanks again.
Tom uses a 10.5 inch Drag Slick, not a drag radial by BFG. Top Stock is a off shoot of Stock eliminator. IHRA uses a 10 or 10.5 slick in stock eliminator as opposed to NHRA. he beat a chevy in the finals and will be looking probably at weight being added as he ran that fast. 9.85 at 132mph WOW. This monster Buick runs with very restricted rules as compared to many other classes. It is a well tuned machine and is proof that you can with time and money make a heavy car fly!!!!!!!!!!!
At the last IHRA meet we went up to him and said that it was nice to see another Buick GSCA member. Anyways it's always good to see a Buick come out on top since it rarely happens. I believe the last glorious moment for a Buick this year was when John Gallina went 7.93 in his GN to be the first Super Gas car in the 7's. This was in NHRA competition also. Buicks never eally get the coverage that they deserve becuase there are so many fast ones out there but people are more worried about Chevrolets and Fords and even Hemis. Buick beat the Hemi you dumb magazines. Just proof that Buicks rule with the Top Stock win and Gesslers car in the stock appearing class. Buicks Rule. Steve
You should have seen those folks in the stands when Tom won. No one really knew what to do, then there was some feverish whispering going on by people sitting next to each other (at least in my area) and some scattered clapping. I was standing there stunned until my buddy handed me his camera and shoved me towards the fence to get pictures. My friend said he heard a couple fans trying to figure out what had just won and one replied "Yeh, it's kinda like a Chevelleou: " Well, if Tom and some of the other guys keep running like this the fans will learn real quick what a Buick Gran Sport is!:TU:
Everyone wishes it was a Chevelle but it's not, its a GS. It beat everything and everyone can deal with it. It's time for Buicks to have their much deserved spotlight time. Steve
Yeah I just read more and seems there was another GS Buick in Top Stock competition. alright. John Galina's car is a Super Stock class racer which is by far the most hardcore drag class. it costs some real green to play and I love watchin it. I'll have to find Galinas info over on the stocker sites. I'm seriously thinking bout heading south to see this Top Stock in person. the truest looking muscle car class for our current times!!!!!!!!! only 2 to go this year
Gallina's website is www.fastbuicks.com I think. His name is not listed in the Super Stock standings. He may have only gone to a few events this year. I think he has won at least one event. Steve
Believe it or not...................... One of my bosses at work races a Chevy 350 in the superstock class and was at the Norwalk event. He called me the next Monday just to tell me that a Buick had smacked around all the Chevy boys up there. With every win, there are bound to be converts. Major props from the Ratroaster!!
Tom Rix also beat Monty Bogan Jr in the final who was supposed to be the greatest Top Stock racer ever. At the last IHRA event I was at in the program there was a big write up on his car. It was also in a magazine. Now that he got beat by a Buick he's realizing that no one will want to put his car in a magazine again. Maybe Tom Rix's car will be in a magazine now. Steve
Did you see it? Tom Rix's race at Norwalk was on TV last night, way cool! :blast:  :beer I'm not sure but I think it was on SpeedTV, and they said something like this "the Norwalk folks really liked the Buicks running", not sure if they were talking about our track buddies, Tim that runs the staging lanes, that owns a GS or the audience, of which it looked like were many! Duh! Norwalk rocks, for Buick RaceDay and for the Factory Stock Muscle Car Drag Race, Kudos to all, especially Tom Rix, and the folks at Norwalk Raceway Park for an awesome event, wish I had been there!
