I am looking for a perfect to near perfect set of NOS 68-72 2DR Sill Plates. The NOS Sill Plates have the rivets on the Body by Fisher tag, and the New GM and reprodution sets don't. I have been searching for a NOS set for awhile now and to no prevail I cannot find a set. If anyone can help me out on this I would greatly appreciate it. Just to through it out there I can say I would be willing to pay $200 for a near perfect set. :beer

There is a set on ebay if I am not mistaken. You understand that the rivets are something that you really see on the bottom and can hardly see if at all on the top except on a real close inspection. There may be a difference in the quality of the ridges and valleys comparing the real deals to the repros.

Andrew, you should be able to track down an NOS set without spending that kind of dough. Only about a year ago, several NOS sets were sold here for less than $100, if I recall correctly.

The set on EBay is New GM not NOS, thanks though. I have searched high and low to find a NOS set, but I cannot get ahold of them. So I have seen prices range in many different areas for a NOS set, and I am willing to pay what it takes to get them. I understand everything about the looks of the NOS ones, but I cannot accept anything else but a NOS set due to it's correctness for my application. So in the end my $200 still stands to the first person who can help me out, thanks.

Thats a pretty ridiculous price, but I am sure it ended up being a bidding war between a select few. I have found a few NOS sets here and there along the way but none met my expectations, they ranged anywhere in price from around a $100-$170. So I think that my $200 offer is more than fair.

    TTT...

I agree if I find some you'll be the first to know.

Jarrod, for some reason I was thinking the plates you had sold were NOS. My mistake, they are the GM repros. BTW, thanks again for the deal you gave me on mine. :)

TTT. Does anyone have a set of perfect or near perfect condition New GM ones in the package? I would be willing to take a look into getting a set of those if I can't find NOS ones. At this point I will consider either but no repros please.

There is a place by me that specializes in Camaro parts but I did by a set of repro "A" body sill plates from them. I asked him about getting a set with the rivets and he said he could put the rivets the repro set if I wanted him to for $50 extra :Dou: I passed....

Can you buy small rivets and a rivet gun to do it yourself :Do No:

    Andrew,
I will have to look at the new ones that I have and see if there are any extras. I know some of them were bought several years ago, but I doubt any are the original riveted style.

Tim if you can take a look at what you have on hand and let me know I would appreciate it. Please do keep in mind that I am looking for a pretty much perfect condition set. Let me know when you get around to it, thanks again.

Yes you can buy rivets and do it yourself. I think this is the route that I am going to have to take since I cannot find a NOS pair. So my next step is to find a set of really nice New GM's.

why don't you just "de-rivet" an old junk set to get your rivets...and drill the new ones to install? All they have to do is sit in there since the Fisher plate is glued on. The plates I bought from GM years ago were non-rivet type....how long ago was it that you could actually buy the riveted type from GM? Thanks

I don't have an old set to de-rivet, I sold my factory ones' to a board member. I am not sure how long ago it was that you could actually buy a NOS set from GM, but I have been told it was quite a few years ago. The hard part out of all of this is even if I cannot find a NOS set I have to get a near perfect set of New GM's and that seems to be a hard feat in itself since I have passed on at least 10 different sets. This was either due to an imperfection in the mold by GM, or the sill plates were scratched up or had small dinges. Just becuase they are in the original GM packaging doesn't mean they are in perfect or even great condition for that matter. So there are a few variances here that are holding me back from aquiring the set that meets my standards.

are you sure the "scratching" is post-production and not part of the tooling/manufacturing/packaging process? Look at wheel opening mouldings--while the outer curved areas on these are nice the flat areas that the screws go into are full of tooling marks/scratches from the shrinking dies...could be similar "defects" on door sill plates. I will look at mine tonight. Patton

I will give you a few examples, I have run into at least 8 sets that even the parts department at local dealerships have turned down due to some creases in the sill plates. They say it is part of the mold they are using these days and they also said they would talk to GM about it, but I have idea where that stands with them today. The other part I have run into is the plastic packaging does not always guarentee the the sill plate will stay in perfect condition. I have seen some from dealerships where the plastic has been ripped or maybe a small tear in it and that can lead to the sill plate getting scratched. I have not seen any tooling marks of any kind on the sill plates I have encountered, nor have I seen any tooling marks on my rocker panels either.

    Andrew,
It appears that I have 6 new pairs. They are all in the original packaging and from what I remember they have never been opened up or had any tears from mishandling. I would guess they were all bought in the mid to late 80's.
I will dig them out and give them a closer inspection.
I know when we restored the Chevelle in the early 90's the new GM's I got for it were in perfect shape.

On that 5 blade fan I need to look a few more places to make sure which ones I need and which are extras.

Sounds good Tim, if you can pick me out the best pair and let me know their condition we can work something out. I really do appreciate your help on this. Give me a holler when you get around to it. :beer
