My 88 3/4 Ton Suburban has a weird brake problem and I need some ideas. Truck supposedly has 200k+ miles. When moving forward slowly such as in a parking lot or pulling up to a speed bump and you apply the brakes in a normal manner, the rear brakes seem like they don't apply much if at all, then suddenly apply much harder than they should. It is just below the point where the tires lock up. During normal street driving, there is no problem at all as it stops normally with no hint of chatter or sudden application. Here is what has been done to identify the problem: Pulled the drums and shoes and drums seem in good shape. No strange wear or anything. Nothing hanging out of place, no loose hardware, etc. It all actually LOOKS normal. It definitely doesn't act normal. Minor adjustment to tighten the shoes. Made the problem more pronounced rather than fixing anything. I bought this truck a couple of months ago and it did it when I bought it. I got it from a 23 year old girl, divorce situation and she said she didn't know anything about the truck at all.
grabby brakes at parking lot speeds sounds like the rear (or all) the system should be bled. Theres a big air bubble in the line I'll bet. Get the big bottle of brake fluid and a buddy, and bleed all the lines till clean fluid comes out. Good luck, I hope you don't snap any bleeders off ou:
brakes Ck the brake shoes to make sure that the short shoe is to the front. Short shoe to the front and long shoe to the rear. :Smarty:
