I talked to several people at the Nat's that wanted to see my 70 GS455, now that it's back in street trim and no longer a quarter mile thrasher. Here are a few that I took today, on it's first trip out with new drivetrain, wheels, etc. Still a few bugs to work out, but it feels just as strong as it did as a drag car.
    Now,
    470 CI / 6.800 Scat BBC rods
    stroked and nitrited stock crank
    Diamond custom pistons
    TA ported 69 430 heads
TA Hyd cam TA 290-08HL (actualy has vacuum for brakes!)
    1050 Dominator
3" exhaust with X pipe & Flowmaster Mufflers

    Looks great Steve,
May I ask what size the wheel and tire combo is, and is it a stock style suspension?

    I envy you!

    Wheels & Tires

It's pretty much a stock suspension except for the rear control arms built by SRE. The wheels and tires are actually off of my street rod project that has been pushed back in the corner waiting for my retirement years. They're 17's and 18's. I can't remember the width's or the offsets, but they BARELY fit! I had to do some creative manipulating to get them to fit. The rear wheel well lip was already manipulated so I don't feel to bad with what I had to do. The tires are Goodyear Eagle F1's. They don't feel as "loose" on the street as I thought they would. Maybe I'll make a pass or two at Indy? (12.20's on regular radials?)
    Thanks, Steve

Beautiful car SteveI have always admired it. :TU:

    Im in a similar situation.
I have an old 70 GS Drag Car, that Im removing a ladder bar/coil over set up from and installing the factory type 4-link into. Do you plan to remove the roll bar?

Im going to removing the one in my car, and then maybe update it to a smaller lighter chrome molly unit, with a swing out. But I may just leave it out.

Thanks all for the positive comments.

Hectic "Killer car! What was the strip combo"

The strip combo changed several times. The last setup was with a similiar engine, just a wilder cam (308s) and an external oil/vacuum pump. (mainly for R&D purposes) It ran consistant 11.0's and on good days in the 10.90's. I had HR Parts sway bar, drag shocks, spool W/4.10's, no front sway bar and a short mid exit exhaust. I ran skinny MT's up front an Hoosier slicks, (radial type). I also ran a strong turbo 400 with a brake and usually left at 1800 rpm or so. It was fun for several years but you know how that speed bug bites and you need to go faster? Well it bit hard and I don't want to cut up my car to go faster, sooo -- it went back to street staus before I did something I would regret. I'm building a strickly race car for next year.

Mr Big "Do you plan to remove the roll bar?"

I'm not going to remove it yet as it's still a hot rod in my opinion. I still might run it at the track now and then, and with slicks it should run 11.50's or so. Some day when I have time and the drive, I'll return the entire car back to stock, as I still have the original drivetrain and it's in great condition. At that time I'll cut the roll bar out and once again have a nice MOSTLY original car.

grannys70skylrk "Steve, Gulfstream Blue paint? "

Actually yes and no. It was originally Gulfstream Blue, but when I built it into a hot rod, I decided to paint it Bahama Blue Poly. That color is similiar, but more vibrant.

    Thanks, Steve

Steve are you still running the HR bar?

I'm about to put one under one of my cars and was just wondering how it's going to ride and drive on the street.

    Thanks Glen

    HR Bar

Glen, I put the stock one back on, but the HR Bar was just fine on the street. It had no ill effects that I could notice. The bar was great quality and it worked! Paul does good work!

Hope to see you guys this summer! Sold the big boat and back into the Buicks- now which one do I start on? T-Type or 70 Stage 1?
