I hope that price ($12k) is a mis-print. According to the website I use for determining value, that car is worth about $7k IF it is in #1 condition. What the heck is going on with the pricing on these cars?:Do No:

We have said it before, they are worth what someone is willing to pay. I am skeptical of price guides though. They never seem to be all that accurate. I used to use the old car price guide, but what things were selling for and what the book said they were worth became too great a difference. I received alot of comments and remarks when I listed my 69 Stage 1 4 speed convertible on this site last year. But it sold in 3 weeks for the asking price, which was about $8000 more than the price guides said it was worth.

Well, I guess all it all boils down to what the car is worth to the individual buying it when deciding what to pay as opposed to asking price. I wonder why the big difference in price guides? What does NADA base their values on? Old Car Price Guide claims they follow the market, but if this is market price, they need to do a better job!

    more pics?

Sorry Chris, I have already sold it. I got my asking price and more. the guy that bought the car asked if I had any other parts for it and he gave me another wad of cash for this stuff. I guess he like the basket?

    Back again, not sold

Car is available still, seller said he would take 10,5k
Seller also said car has been at body shop for 3 years. So only 600 miles on motor rebuild. What type of storage was this in? Maybe an open auto carrier? 600 miles?

it is called supply & demand

price guides do not mean much when it comes to buying/selling classic cars . it is called supply & demand . there are fewer and fewer good classic cars each day but more and more buyers , especially the baby boomers who most likely are empty nesters and have money to spend .

Their is always going to be a lag between selling cars, and price guides. What cars are selling for today, sets the price for tomorrows guides. They are great to get an idea, but market research and comparables are still the most accurate. Sorry to have this discussion on your post, but at least it is staying up top. Tony

Just to add my .02. MOST "Guides" are just that, and reflect what was sold 2-4 months ago due to print time etc. IF YOU ARE LUCKY, the cars were down at the time of printing.
NADA, & Old Car Price Guides are JUST THAT. GUIDES, NOTHING MORE. BEST gross' made are when Buyer brings in 1 of those books, BEST SALES TOOL some one can use to BURY themselves!
Color, options and other things are NOT factored, which cause variance in pricing. GS cars have been overlooked for so LONG, that the market is on an up swing on them Slow but sure! I see it daily. I DOUBT they will bring the BOGUS prices of Hemi Cars, but they WILL cover the 442 & start to climb on the GTO & SS Chevelles.
The Appraisals WILL go up on the Better cars, & bring up the the pricing on the lower catagories as there are fewer left. Parts are going upward as well.
I was told by the general manager of a Dealership I worked at that the AVERAGE price of a new car in 1980 would be $10K this was in 77, & I thought he was NUTS. NOW LOOK.

Fred is still around. Still in Elizabethtown. I saw him at Zimmerman's speed shop in Greensburg about 3 years ago.
