Hey guys, i am not really new to this board, as i use to own a skylark and visited on a regular basis for info, tips, and help. so, here is the deal: i have a completly dissasembled 1971 455 siting on an engine stand that i am going to start a rebuild on, all the bolts however are just tossed into a bin, not labeled or anything. some are busted, some are stripped, and some are rounded, so i planned on buying a whole new bolt set. i think ta offers this, does anyone else? what steps should i take to accomplish a strong street runner. i am not looking at going to drag strips or the like just a nice strong street machine, that sounds good and has the guts when i want it. also does anyone know any respectable machine shops in the midwest (MN, IL, OH, KS, IA, SD, ND, WI, etc....) It will eventually go into a 70-72 skylark when the rebuild is done. thanks for all the help.

Vince if you are going to ship it I suggest AMP performance I am sure someone here can supply you with a phone number and address . A lot of strong running Buicks have come from them .

Another place you might wanna try is Tri Shield Performance in Minnesota. Its run by the guy who runs this board, Jim Weise.

Yes JW too . I have had good luck with local machine shops but use quality parts . Most engine builders can build a good street 455 just do not make the compression mistake and keep it simple . The more basic you keep the rebuild the better chance of lasting sucess . my wifges 72 STage 1 engine was a factory style rebuild and it is going strong after 11 years ( knock on wood ) 8.5 comp and cast pistons with a Stage 1 cam from Poston .
