I have a rebuilt 455 that i am trying to break in. I have about 3 hundred miles on it and was driving on the highway when it just stopped running. I pulled over and it started right up and drove it home. It now does this reguarly. It drives perfectfor about five minutes then it starts to spudder and die. I have a brand new holly carb and pump and new filter. what else could be wrong.

Check the 12 volt feed wire to the distributor. Put a voltmeter on it, and move it around with the key in the run position. See if you lose the 12 volts. Might be a bad connection. Sounds like ignition, if it quits suddenly.

Could also be the magnetic pickup grounding out to the distributor body. Had a simular problem in my GS. Turned out to be the tiny wires at the very bottom of the distributor. Looked fine from above, but they cracked due to age/heat and the wire grounded out stopping the engine & starting the swearing. Looked everywhere, replaced everything (distributor/carb/wires/coil/wiring harness & so forth). Finally fixed it usinf a Vega magnetic pickup, runs awsome.

Maybe your fuel tank is not vented properly.........try running it with the cap loose and see if the problem goes away. :bglasses:

Check the HEI module, rotor, and alternator as well.
