... Our 71 Riv has a lost of brake fluide in the rear brake circruit. Now I figured out where the fluid goes. The gasket between the Master Cylinder and the Booster is leaking. I called out parts shop over here to get me an master cylinder overhaul kit, or at least that gasket, but they dont offer that things for that master cylinder. Its a Brodix Master Cylinder in there. Are these parts still available in the USA? Maybe someone could help me and send me a gasket? Thanks! Juergen
Jrgen, Don't overhaul, buy a new one. They are very cheap, even here in the Netherlands. We ordered a master cylinder for a 1976 Skyhawk for just over 28,00 Euro. Make a phonecall to C&P USA Parts in the Netherlands, I'm sure they can help you out. (If not, first try the other addresses, saves you from waiting another week) Website (German version not available yet) They speak German, no problem. 0031 77 475 93 00 Another address is Hageman AutoParts: 0031 343 517 888 Or Mico USA Parts: Website in German Or Catalina Parts: Website in German What happend to this German Buick Parts website ? Click logo :Smarty:
I was asking Mike and Franks, maybe you know them. They told me they can offer me a new one, but that gasket doesnt come with the cylinder! So its still the same problem! Juergen
Phone Hageman, number is listed above :TU: Or ask at http://www.ami-forum.de/forum for addresses in Germany.
Talked to Mike and Franks again. New cylinder is at 76... thats not cheap! Lets see what hageman sais Juergen
Hageman quoted me 150!! Well, he told me its a brand new one, made in USA, and not a rebuild one... but 150?? Where did you buy that 28 cylinder  Juergen
http://www.mico.net/partsearch/search_catalog.html I guess thats the one you bought, isnt it? I just talked to MICO. He offered me 46 plus tax plus shipping ( 66 total ). Well, at least the cheapest one yet. Juergen
Where exactly is the master cylinder leaking from? I have never known a MS to require a gasket. You just bench-bleed them first, then install them and bleed the system.
Yes, I'm pretty sure there's not supposed to be fluid in that area, it's supposed to stay inside the master cylinder. Sounds like the M/C needs rebuilding/replacing. I looked at the MICO website, it lists: (in Euros) 10-1521 [A-1 Cardone Reman Master Cylinder] w/Delco Brk Booster w/Shallow Piston Hole; OE Delco Moraine Boosters are usually gold-anodized, core = 4.00 price = 25.72 and: 10-1496 [A-1 Cardone Reman Master Cylinder] w/Bendix Brk Booster w/Deep Piston Hole; OE Bendix Boosters are usually painted black, core = 5.00 price = 27.58 The other ones (new, not rebuilt??) are more expensive, but I've used A-1 Cardone reman'd parts before, and haven't seen anything wrong with them.
Yeah, 19% is pretty much! I always thought we are expensive with 16% over here in Germany.. At least, youre still cheaper than Austia with 20% sales tax. CarDone sounds good, but how do I know if its a correct replacement for the Riv brakes? There might be differences between the cylinders... dont ya think? Damn, I just noticed I forgot to check what booster we have in the riv! Must drive home again....
I checked with my local parts guy, and those M/C part numbers are what he shows, depending on the brake booster. Speaking of  taxes, what's your income tax rate? Maybe it makes up for the sales tax... o No:
Income tax depends on how much you earn. If your salary is normal, its about 35%. If you make good money theyll charge you up to 56% over here (Germany) Juergen
That's the same type system here, the more you make, the more proportionally you pay. Kinda seems de-motivational, huh?   Yow, that's about the same income %, plus the sales tax??? How do you afford to eat? o No: (I'm gonna go start my own country... :Brow: )
Well, with gasoline prices like 5.54$/gal for regular over here right now (NL is a little higher thou), the owner of the gas station sometimes gives you a piece of bread.
We pay US$ 6.43 for 1 US Gallon here. Remember that for the costs of running 1 single Buick here in Europe, I could at least run 3 Buicks in N-America. Our taxes may be high, but we are among the richest countries in the world. (With a size of only 15,963 square miles) Click here And a lot of this has to do with paying higher taxes for a better overall standard of living. We don't have to tip in restaurants (our waitresses earn a 100% salary, also when they are ill at home, they still get the same money) We have the most days off from work worldwide, a standard 36 hours workweek, we have a very good social security system with excelent medical care and we don't have to depend on your savings (or children) when we get older and stop working at 55. I'm glad I don't live in the USA, I see a lot of poor people living there, the gap between rich and poor is too big. And the way the police and customs officers are behaving is a big joke. If I had to live in N-America, I choose for Canada. But that's just my opinion, and don't think I hate the USA or something like that: I always enjoy being there, but after a few weeks it's good to return home, where I think the way of living is less narrow minded.
