Getting tired of my OBD II equiped vehicles giving me no way of getting the codes and data I'd like. I'm looking around at some of the systems and I have both a laptop and a Palm here in my office and I would like opinions of anyone that may have used one of these systems.

    thanx

It all depends how often you use it, and if you use it in your daily work. We had a Snap-On MT2500 for the last several years with pretty good luck. I see that they have come out with a stand alone OBDII only handheld unit this year also. We recently moved from the MT2500 to the Snap-On MODIS unit. A very good unit that runs the same software version as the MT2500 (for now) and also has 4 channel scope, DVOM, and the ability to graph the DVOM or scanner or scope and record it. It's a nice unit about the size of a laptop, but a bit pricey.... over $7K.
You can pick up a snap on scanner on ebay for usually 5-600 and alot of times they come with a bunch of cartridges.

Here is one for $595 with a few hours left, and alot of cartridges.

Strictly personal/family type use. My days of using tools like this for a living have been over for about 8 years... I agree the Snap on is a nice piece of equipment but for occasional use I don't needed to make a capitol investment...

    thanx

If you are just wanting codes or a "snapshot" of the sensors AutoXray makes a handheld unit for about $400.00 that does both the OBD I and II for all domestic cars. I have had it for about 1.5 years and it does a pretty good job.

I'm using a product called AutoTap from, I believe, B&B Electronics. You can buy 1, 2 or all 3 modules from them to do Ford, GM and Chrysler/Imports. I had no use for the Chrysler/Import module, so I skipped it and just bought the Ford and GM deal. Works on your laptop through the serial port to the thingy under the dash on the car.

I have successfully used it to clear codes, trouble shoot problems, etc on both Ford and GM vehicles. Cost is about $400, if I remember correct. Works as advertised.
