I found a problem with the block I am running in my car. The last time I redid it I switched to Chevy lifters. I did not inspect them close enough and one of them had a small burr on it and has wore the lifter bore some. Needless to say I was not a happy camper when I found this. What I did was to clean the little ridge out in the middle of the bore with some emery paper and touched it up with a brake hone and sanded out the nick on the lifter and checked the play with a dial indicator and it had .003 clearence so I put it together and ran it like that this last summer seems not to be a problem. My question is do they make lifters that are slightly over size say like .005 to fix it correctly if I ever rip it down again? I am assuming that with such weak lifter bores that putting in a thin sleave is a no no. The block has alot of work put into it and would hate to have to do another one because of this. o No: Tom
Tom - You're right about the sleeve being a 'no-no' on the Buick.ou: Don't know the answer about the oversize lifters....hope so.
Tom, I was in an old Motors manual recently and there was a footnote in the Buick V8 rebuilding section that stated in 1974 some blocks were manufactured with .010 oversized lifter bores and that these oversized bores were marked with a O. It says that a special oversize lifter was used. Maybe they're still available. Hope that helps. Mike
The gm part number for the oversized lifter is 5233005. And yes, gm did use them occasionally. I ran across one block several ago that had an "O" stamped on one lifter bore. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES
Thanks for the help. There is a GM dealer near me, sometime I will need to stop in and see if they have chevy oversize lifters. Jim I assume that part number is for a Buick lifter? I have my block milled to close to .000 deck so I use the chevy lifters and stock length pushrods. Tom
The lifter number I gave is for the Buick lifter, I'm sure they make one for chevrolet, but I don't have that number. Jim Burek
