Hey Chris ...stop on by when you get a chance ,I am home after 7:30 pm till late late /Sundays all day long
All body put together ..... next step is sand it down with 80 grit and take off 1/2 of that 7 year old epoxy primer and put 2 light coats of fresh black ppg epoxy and then whack on a good coat of that cream colored G2 primer fill and then another coat of same but in black ......different colors so these will act as my guide coats no block sanding yet ....I will take car apart again and clean up and paint the jambs under hood ,under trunk lid ,hinges etc And then invite two others for a BBQ and trick them to walk into the garage (CPK71 and Alex ) and line everything up again and better and then start block sanding ..... only problem I have now is color choice .....its been in black primer for a long time and I am getting use to it maybe black I also like this red color on this Riv ....but when you look at the sample for this GM color of Riviera Red it looks more like on the brownish side
Hi Frank, Do you have the inner fender wells attached to your front fenders when you are making the fenders lining up? I didn't and it was a big mistake from my side, everything lined up nicely for me until I installed and torqued the bolts to the inner fender wells. Too bad this was discovered after all was painted, I had to redo the shimming once again with extreme care due to the fresh paint. I did manage to get it good enough to live with but it's not as good as it was before. You don't need to do the same mistake. :TU:
..then I will have to bolt them up and take a look .....didn't think of that at all just assumed there is plenty of wiggle room for them ... thanks for the heads up :TU:
Getting ready for a few fresh light coats epoxy primer and then 2-3 coats of featherfill G2 primer build ... going black with first two coats of G2 and the last coat will be buff so to use as a guide coat ... we will be sandblocking the rest of the month muscle time /aching muscle time
all done with the primer fill ....now sand block time while we debate what color to paint her something is telling me black ....not sure This buff color G2 lays down pretty good ...or maybe its just more the color difference from black colored G2 to buff color
We try'n ..... a wet look after 180 block sanding , either my arms are gonna fall off or big muscles coming o No: I used that G2 stuff ,works pretty good I like the stuff ...the black areas you see is G2. I used black 2 coats under 1 coat of the buff so to use as guide coat somewhat besides my powdery guide coat stuff
Well ....all smoothed out and lines look good ....just deciding what color to go and maybe paint next week if warmer temperatures come back in Chicago ,also will take it all apart and paint separately thinking single stage as it seems what everybody has convinced me for a solid color
Hey Frank.. Not sure if you have used it or not.. but a cheap black spray paint, misted over the lighter color primer, works great for what is called a "guide coat". It will go on as "dots"... then you sand, and the dots show the low spots. Sand till all the dots are gone. What color are you painting? There is a body shop product actually called "guide coat" but I have found that cheap spray paint works just as well. JW
I already done that I used the powder/sponge ....3x with all 3 grits I used 180/320/400 and its super smooth . some are telling me go 500/600 but I believe in a mechanical grip of paint plus I will also be putting 2 light coats of tinted sealer over everything thinking but not sure of this red here on this riv -Riviera Red - ..cant remember the color code but it looks more brownish red like on the chip samples at store I asked if they can make me a pint so I can spray it on a sample primed metal and they said they cant ...o No: if all else fails ...BLACK ! ....my lines are good enough for it ....
I sprayed the whole car down with grease and wax remover /slow dry stuff and stood back and looked at all angles .....smooth as ice imo
yea ...I am painting it .... you wanna watch ?....I'm selling tickets but I will need you and Alex when I put the painted fenders/doors on
