I'm gonna try the wix filter out if I can find them in a local parts house. If not i'm gonna go with the napa gold. Well what's a good break in oil (size/weight) that I should use when breaking in a rebuilt engine?

ask about break in on the 455 page, or bench.... i used break in oil, and good quality motor oil. slathered the cam with the break in oil, but i'm an amateur when it comes to building engines, i had elder experience watching over me the whole way. Ask the other guys.

    Hi Guys,

I just turned the bolts around with the head of the bolts exposed and the problem was solved with the AC-24 filter. Do one bolt at a time and retorque. I did have pic's showing before and after but they were on my old computer....sorry.

Either the Wix or Napa Gold are good filters but so is the AC-24. For break-in oil you should try the new Royal Purple Break-In Oil. If not, I've always used straight 30w, NOT a multi-viscosity detergent oil. There is more ACTUAL oil in straight weight oil for break-in purposes but they ALL lack sufficent amounts of phosphurous and zinc anymore so a quality race oil is the best bet for those essential additives. Even GM's EOS lacks high enough amounts anymore. You can also go with (and I would HIGHLY advise you to do so!) ZPPD. If a flat-tappet cam (aka...NON roller) then be sure to bring RPMs up to 2500-3000 for AT LEAST 20 minutes...30 even more prefered! Watch oil pressure and water temp and if either are not correct in either too little pressure or too high of temp shut off and find the problem rather than risk damage.

Another tip for you in case you do not already have one is to also get yourself a TA adjustable oil pressure regulator so that you can do just that! :TU:

The NAPA 1042 is the same as the Wix filter and I've used it in all kinds of tight spots. It is the same size as the GN filters. It comes off a 1975 Skylark with V-6 and it was the only year they used that filter because it has the same SAE threads as the earlier engines, so there is no need to change pump covers, and the next year they went metric.
NAPA was going to get rid of it a few years ago but I think they said that some newer(?) cars started using it again.
