My 72 455 Centurion has a mysterious oil leak that has been anoying me. The car doesn't leak setting still but if you drive it for an extended period of time (1 hr) the fan sucks oil and blows it all over the engine and bay. I've washed the engine numerouse times and still haven't found it. Have any of you experienced this before. I thought it might be the oil filter pump assembly but it doesn't show anything after idleling for 20min. Only after highway speed??:Do No:

I'm guessing at highway speeds the motor is buzzing right along at about 2500 RPM. This is probably enough RPM to create a lot of oil pressure. Its probably blowing through the oil pump assembly. I had the same problem with my 430 when I installed it in my Skylark. Except I drove with my hood for awhile, and the oil completly coated the windsheild, and engine. The got sucked through my cooling fans, and it misted everywhere. Hope this helps. Joe

Well. thats not it. I replaced the gasket from pump to engine and pump housing and it is still leaking. It has gotten so bad I took it to a shop and they couldn't find it. It has killed 3 alt and a set of points. What other area could it be sucked from by the fan?

Intake manifold to rail seal, distributor O ring, oil sending unit, that's all I can think of right now.

have you thought front main seal?

oil will trickle down to the end of the balancer and sling from that. mine woulden't drip when mine was shot but covered EVERYTHING in oil.

I'm with Nate. I had a similar problem - turned out to be the front seal.

Oil dripped down the balancer and the fan blew it all over, making it hard to find the leak.

Basically, I put cardboard under the car right after a long ride. A little oil dripped... in a number of places. Then I got under to see which drips came from a place that actually had oil (instead of areas collecting oil blown by the fan). It was the front seal.

Are you running any kind of aftermarket guages? Mechanical Oil pressure sending unit? If you are, check the plastic/copper line coming out of the block.

No, everything is factory Adam. When
I get the chance to look at it I'll check on the front seal. Unfournatley I am in the prosses of moving from NC to Sevierville, TN and am only getting one day off a week to get back here to move things.
