Changed oil on the '72 skylark, 455 last week, at friends shop.

Having issue with oil leak at the drain plug. If a new drain plug does not
fix the leak, is there some kind of "repair" that is available or
    recommended to remedy the situation?

    thanks
    Ed

Advance auto (so do others) sell a self tapping over sized drain plug. If I remember correctly (I used one on a Ford Taurus), they sell one that is one size larger than a stock one and also one size larger than that. It was a quick cheap fix and I have not had a problem since.

Be sure to use a soft copper, plastic or nylon gasket.

Thanks for telling him about the gasket. I thought about it after I replied to his question but didn't go back and update my reply.:gp:

    Did this stop the leak?

There is also a rubber drain plug with a wingnut you tighten to seal the drain.

napa has several oversized self tapping bolts that work. just bring your old plug in, and start with the minimum oversize first.

GM dealers sell a metal fasher drain plug gasket with a molded in rubber seal.

    BEST ONE YOU WILL FIND.

Mine started dripping one day and I picked up an assortment of the metal and plastic oil plug washers from the local auto parts store. The first one I tried was plastic and it stopped the drip.
