Good day. I am seeing some oil leak coming from the front of the gasket on my new engine build. Upon inspecting, it appears for some reason, that Scotty did not use screws in the front of the oil pan and must have used some gasket sealant. I know these oil pans are known for leaks and I had some leaks in the same area with the previous engine. Looking for feedback on what I should do here? Should I get some new bolts, remove the gasket sealer and install them or leave as is? Thanks again
I've never had a leak on my postons pan....I have the bolts in........I use Allen bolts and still had the really cut the key down to be able to use it.. Mike did have to clearance my pan some......if you need I think I have his directions on how to fully check everything out. Then when I snug it up I normally add a smear on the outside between the 2 surfaces just to cross the t
If yo if you can send me such info that would be great. Majority of my screws are Allen bolts aside from the two up front right/left of the pan. Any idea what size Allen bolts it takes? Also any suggestions on removing whatever was used to cover up front bolts? Feels like gasket maker as it feels rubbery. Trying to avoid bringing down the pan And add front screws to see if I can stop oil leak somewhat. Thanks
I will put the screen shot here, but might be hard to see.....but send me an email and I will forward it to you
So I finally spoke with Scotty this morning inquiring as to why he did not install the two front bolts. He informed me that they were unable to get bolts in there and decided to use silicone. A bit upsetting to hear such response as I would have expected that they would be able to especially that other local shops were able to when attempting to fix the previous oil leaks on the old motor. He said to clean it well and apply some more RTV Clear on the outside to see if that would fix it. Personally not the path that I want to take. @Bens99gtp or anyone else with such poston pans, am I able to get the two front screws installed without having to fully remove the pan? Any guidance appreciated as I much rather have screws over just RTV. I am already aware of cutting down an allen key to tighten, just need to know if the screws can be placed into position with the pan as is? Thanks
As long as the angle between the timing cover and pan are correct you should be able too.....I have had mine apart plenty if times in the car........everytime I take the cover off I need to remove and install those bolts
I have exchanged a few text messages with Hector over his leaks and odd noises. The noise looks like it is drive train related as he only hears it while the car is moving, not in Park/Neutral. One of his leaks is due to a stripped bolt, one of the bolts that hold the removable sump on.
