I have just begun to try to get the big picture of what I got and what I need to do with the 69' Skylark Conv. I just purchased. I ran the thing up to op. temp today and the oil light came on @ idle. I installed a mech. gauge in place of the switch and verified the press. to find that it has 4-5 psi @ idle, and approx 35 psi @ 3500-400 rpm. I have no idea what the spec is but the press at idle seems low to me. I shot the temp of the oil filter with a heat gun and it was 155-160 deg. F. Coolant temp was 185. I'll p/u an oil filter after the long weekend, cut open the old one and look for stuff. If anyone has the specs for a 350, could you send them my way, and I'd love to here any of your thoughts about whether I have a problem brewing here or if I'm worrying about nothin'. I have body shop time booked for the fall, so I want to deal with the power train stuff right away. I hope to be drivin' in June. Thanks.

You want to have atleast about 10psi at idle hot, 35psi at 3500 isnt to bad. What oil are you running? You might need to replace the timing cover and pump gears. If so while you're at it I'd recommend a TA booster plate and adjustable preassure regulator too.

Thanks Regal350. I've pulled the timing cover off and it does require replacement, timing chain is pretty bad, the engine has an overheat problem, so I'm pullin her out. I'll check it over good and make a decision right away, but I'm starting to think that my next decision might be a 455/turbo 400 arrangement. It'll eat up some of that bodyshop cash I need but if I'm gonna do it, I wanna do it before the paint. It'll probably kill the plans for a little wind in my hair next summer, I'll have to spend more time in the boat I guess. Thanks for gettin back to me. You Buick guys are awesome, starting to wonder why I had those Chevelles 20 years ago.

Hey, yeah while your at it I recommend getting a good wix Oil Filter. And run strait weight oil none of the manual recommended 10w-30 10w-40 stuff just strait 30 or strait 40.
