I use 20w50 in everything. Why does the Vette use 0w50??? It is the best oil you can buy from Mobile 1?? So wouldnt 0w50 be best for everyone??? Now I know some import cars have such tight bearing that they must run it very thin but...... -Matt
I have hear many engine builder say that also. A hi-flow pump will cause more damage than it will help. A stock pump has plenty of flow. also how fast the oil get back into the pan is a factor in the pump choice. you could pump it so fast it all ends up in your valve covers and you spin the front crank bearing. -Matt
Hi guys You guys talking about oil and oil pressure made me curious about my 68 lesabre coupe(350; 4 bb), so I went out and bought me a pressure gauge. I hooked it up first thing this morning and this is what it read. cold start 30psi idle hot (530 rpm) 20psi 1000rpm 30psi 2000rpm 34psi 3000rpm 37psi I didn't drive the car but let it run on my driveway. I had the engine it the shop last year and had the cam and bearings changed, new main bearings, new push rod bearings, new piston rings, new timing gear and new lifters. The oil I am using is valvoline 10-W40 synthetic blend. That's what the guys in the shop recommended. Maybe I should go back to just mineral oil?? Just let me know what you think. Next car will be my convertible. I'm curious what this will show.
Okay here you go Just checked the oil pressure of my convertible. It's also a 350, all original but the camshaft. There was a new cam put in about 15 years ago, so this is definitely not new anymore. cold start 45psi hot idle (530 rpm) 22psi 1000rpm 38psi 2000rpm 46psi 3000rpm 50psi This engine has the normal mineral oil 10-W40. Just let me know what you think.
