This is in regards to a 350 w/165,000 miles in a 1970 Lesabre... the external oil pump "clatters" - has been for two years, yet the owner has been driving the car, no worries, and has taken it to Alaska from Calgary twice since 2000... w/the clattering... the car blows no smoke at all... this is the man's daily driver - he does all the work himself and has all the service records... he is the orginal owner.

    Questions:

    1. Is this somewhat normal - the clattering? I have seen on this site that 350 Buick engines had issues w/the oil pump. I mentioned an oil gauge, he said there was none and that installing one would not be the best thing...

    2. Could this be the sign of an imminent major issue/expense?

    Thanks in advance.

Pump could just be worn. Might worth it to pull the pump, and inspect it.

Thanks! I am new to Buicks... and what apears to be a common issue - ticking! We'll see what an oil change w/good oil and filter produce... and check the pump. I want to get one of those TA pump kits soon. I love the sound of the dual exhaust!
