Hi there, My first question is are temprature senders(switches) and oil pressure senders (switches) interchangable on all (or which?) Buick engines. I have a 1966 340 ci engine and want to know are these specific to this engine or can I use ones from a 400 ci or a 215 ci, and if so,what years? Question 2. The dashpot (small flying saucer with a spring!) on my engine is mounted on the inlet manifold in front of the carb and the Kick down Switch, and carb throttle lever rests against it . What does it do? is it neccessary, there are no wires attached to it, it just sits there. I am rebuilding and don't know if it works or not. I saw one for sale from a 1964 engine and it had a micro switch similar to the one on my throttle linkage attached to it!. Any assistance would be appreciated. I will try to attach a photo of the dashpot thang, cheers Louis
Jock, err I mean Louis (Its OK, I can make that joke, I'm Scottish too). The dashpot is responsible for keeping your automatic transmission equipped car's engine from stalling if and when you back off the throttle rapidly. I am pretty sure it functions by not letting the throttle linkage snap closed at a rapid pace. Cheers Phil.
