206 mph, that's wild for sure. For the last year I've had a bad itch to take my little green car out to the dry lakes and take a shot at 200 mph. I know there are extensive aero mods that would have to be made, and watching the windshield trim pop out and fly away just illustrates the point further. I read one of the engineers in Car & Driver discussing the fact that any speed over roughly 180 mph, is enough to turn your 3500 lb car into an airplane unless you take the proper aerodynamic precautions. That little green car sure looked good at 200 mph though.
      Yawnnnn....................another E-body Mopar..... boring......
That would be a B-Body, Dave, and I do like the fins!! :Brow: What would wake me up is a 68 Hemi S/S Dart or 'Cuda leaving the line with its back bumper scraping the track and the back tires tripping the 60' beams! Now THAT is exciting to me. :kodak:
A cuda gets my attention. One that goes 208 gets anyones attention unless they are so set in what is allowed to be cool in their world that they don't even know what they like any more. Just another B body?? I love my skylark, but you see WAY more of them than you do 'cuda's......
I'm not a race car driver but I did have an 80s vintage Porsche 928 up to 145 mph once. The front end felt so light I was afraid to turn the steering wheel to go around a VERY large radius turn on the four lane highway I was on. I can't imagine what that Cuda felt like. Did they do any windtunnel testing with the car before they took it up to 200 mph?
From the narrative, I assume the factory engineers at the track judged it to be road worthy and turned them loose.
When I was 16 I owned a 1970 B5 colored 340 automatic Cuda. At that age I thought it was the most impressive car in the world. It would run very well and not many cars could keep up. I'm 48 now and still see this car as the most impressive car I've ever owned. I love my 71 GS, but I equally love this car... Great video, great car. MIke Iggycat NJ
Just shows you that for 400K you can go 206 mph in a cuda. I woud rather have a Ford GT and a few nice other muscle cars
The test was at the Chrysler proving ground in Michigan. IIRC, the complex is made up of all sorts of engineering and texting facilities. One is a 4.5 mile high-banked oval. I don't know where it ranks on the list of longest hish speed test tracks but that's big enough for almost anything that has wheels on it. VW's test track is @7.5 miles, the Ohio Test Center track is about that length IIRC. I don't know how long the GM and Ford tracks are but I think I remember there are both over 4 miles in length. The tire manufacturers also have test tracks that are that size. ant car the Legendary Motor Cars builds is a piece of near perfection. The do fantastic restoration and as can be seen they can produce a first rate resto-mod/ pro touring car. And I do miss the fact that "Dream Car Garage" is no longer on Speed, They are now on a TV network in Canada and maybe somewhere else that I don't know about.
Would you prefer to see a SUPER CENTURIAN, wonder what hp it would take to propel one of those buggers??
