Reserve not met at $9K for that piece of whatever...

It doesn't make sense even with the build sheet. Imagine the cost to restore that hulk after paying $1X,000 for basically the VIN and build sheets. Holy crap.

the ad say, " it appears to have bumped something " what ? a speeding locomotive ? lots of rust free road runner bodies for part ? on what planet ? if i wanted a s-bird, i would save my money til i could buy one thats decent, if you buy that one, you will spend more money and aggravation than if you buy a nice one which you can enjoy today. nos for that car is impossible to find, and some of you saw some examples of the parts prices i posted recently. that thing is shot, might be ok for the filty rich guy who just loves a challenge, and that one is quite the challenge. OTOH, he only needs to find one guy, it is getting lots of bids. i think it is BER, beyond economical repair. it makes my GS 455 parts car look sharp, and its a rust bucket. what a shame, i like the winged cars.

All they are buying is the fender tag, door tag, and wing. The other RR is to be the new SB. Is it just me or does that engine look a little new for a factory engine.

OMG that is the one beside the Daytona Speedway!!!! That car sat there for 20 some years and the guy wouldn't sell it. Claimed he was going to restore it. He also had a red one for parts. That car is famous in the mopar world. In fact Cars in Barns has a whole page dedicated to those cars. That man should be executed for mucking up the gene pool. I know alot of cars in that situation around here. Most of them are too far gone because of " Oh thats for my grandson or son or cousin or whatever." :blast: :blast:

Ok thats my vent for the day. I would'nt give a $100 for it. And that is just for the engine!

Well let's see .... The LAST RoadRunner I did (1997) was a '70 Limelight 383/Hemi 4-spd w/a suregrip. As to these things being plentyful, maybe in 1982 when I was in highschool ($300 each, all you can wreck). This particular car came from a So. Cal boneyard, rear quarter had been spliced in from a Burnt Orange RR, front end replaced w/Satilite clip & a rather rusty hood. Paint was fresh, but the seat belt had beat up the roof from Vegas to Salt lake (don't ask). We paid around $3900 for the pleasure of trying to make a buck on it. Everything was impossible to find, Year One knew the credit card # by heart (wait they still do), so about the time we were 3/4 done, we had about $12,000 in it. Very nice car by then. I believe we sold it for $6500 as the investor got cold feet on finishing the car.

Long story short, there is a Challenger T/A in simular shape rotting away for the same reasons as this Superbird. Mopars have never been plentiful enough to tackle something of this magnitude. After around $40K of repairs, you'll still have JUNK, unless you do the unthinkable and grap a rust free belvidere/Satilite tub and start over. Then when you take $60K for you "Original" Limelight Superbird with only a repaint, you can be sued for everything (misrepresentation is a bad thing).

    Big $$$$$$$$

Who ever buys it if they have some parts to finish it maybe worth
75.000 to 100.000 but must be done right, looks more like it got hit with a flaming Meteor :af: :jd:

    Chris Lott 4 speed finally

Hrm, some new Radial TAs, some fresh gas, and a new battery and you've got yourself a $10k driver!

Now if it was a GSX, I could see wanting to save it. But who wants a run-of-the-mill road runner with a big goofy wing on it? J/K mopar guys.

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

A local guy sold his Superbird for almost $40k....went out and spent most of that on a cherry Hemi Challenger.

Those cars still bring the money!!

And don't forget, there is always Barrett Jackson!

    They got $89k for a Sublime 70 SB with a 440:

Original equipment. Broadcast sheet, original bill of sale. Complete teardown restoration in 1990. Complete engine rebuild in 2002, new TTI exhaust. Matching numbers transmission and rear end. Replacement block with correct date code. Rebuilt 6 pack carbs. Pistol grip 4-speed Hurst shifter. Fender tag.

As was said above your buying the build sheet and whatever other parts can be scavenged from that POS. They will all get transfered to a nice rust free Arizona/Socal Road Runner body and peddled as a "massive 10year frame off restoration" next year on Ebay.

I noticed the seller only has 1 sale next to his identity. I wonder if anybody will spend that much money on something like that under that circumstance?:Do No:

I spent alotta time on a Mopar board, & let me tell you that car is a very sought after item. Restored 'Birds go for over 150K, easily. A clone can sell for over 50K. That guy knows what he has, even if us non-Mopar guys don't see it. Surf eBay & look at what the Mopar muscle cars sell for. These guys are serious about their iron. I sure hope the Buicks & Fords never get that bad.

Oh, & if its a clone, the Mopar collectors WILL know it. No fooling them.

46stude, you're absolutely right. I once saw a rust bucket '68 or '69 Charger with a 318 that was priced at 10 grand. I told my father who was with me that I thought the car shouldn't be worth half that even if it was in near perfect condition. Chrysler made some very nice cars, its just too bad they're so expensive now.

Actually, the seller stated that there is no data tag (the one on the inner fender).

I wouldn't be suprised to see that get over $30K
Superbirds are not only worth a TON of dough... they are made of hens teeth. And this one even has history!

Some high rolling mopar heads are going to get into a huge pissing contest to win the infamous "Daytona Speedway" superbird that everyone has been drooling over for years.

This will get interesting, thats for sure.

But for the record..... That is one very sad sight. I'm not sure I've ever even seen a car that bad in a junkyard. :(

a nice bird may well bring $ 150K but after more than 20 years of selling nos mopar, i know every serious mopar vendor there is, and it will cost more than that to fix this thing. there probably will be a P'ing contest. the only history that would be in the back of my mind is, this thing was a rusted hulk.

its a good thing we fix cars for the love of the breed and not view it as an investment, because that thing will cost more to fix than it will ever sell for. but, if a guy has the $$ ( maybe i better add a few more $$$$$$$$$$$ ) he might as well get pleasure from it if he can.
definitly a project for the idle rich.

    $ 10K reserve not met.

LoL...the thing about this one, the person that buys it could care less what they have to pay for it...because they can afford too! There is one of these cars setting with in 2 miles of me thats outside, uncovered and been that way for I know 20 years + and its in way better shape then that mess, it kills me to pass it on the road, the guy won't sell it and could never pay to have it even road worthy much less restored...very sad to see.

Are you sure you fellas are talking about....

Superbirds??? I keep reading all of these posts stating there are ones a few miles from where you are. I dont know where you fella's live, but these things exactly common around here.
I dont follow the mopars myself, but used to know a fella that had a rare mopar and was one of the judges/organizers for the Columbus Mopar Nats. If I recall correctly, he had the Daytona version (of the superbird) with a 4speed hemi in "Petty blue". Its been a few years ago so my memory may not be 100%, but he ALWAYS talked about it. For all I know Petty raced Chevy, but Im pretty sure thats right. I guess the kicker was according to mopar records they never made such a car, or none were known to be left existing.... something like that. Anyway, Petty signed off on the dash of the car and it was appraised for a minimum of $125k with expectation of much more. Or, so I was told. I never personally saw the car so it was more of a fun story to me, but I had several friends who did.
The sad ending is that the old man died and noone knows what happened to the car. Im guessing it was sold for cheap.
