I just finished up a body resto and engine rebuild on my 68 Riviera and put it on the road last Thursday. I am driving it to work and back a few miles a day to get everything dialed in and adjusted. I usually park in the shade taking two spots since I own the building and can do what I want. So Monday when I arrive I have to park one spot over in one parking place. Had it there two hours till I could move it over to take two spaces. Guess what? When I go out to move it someone has creased the left quarter behind the wheel just above the lower body line about 18" long and 1/4" deep and caused a small buckle up high on the quarter. I am so pissed! Not so much about the damage which I can repair with a lot of work, but the fact that someone did it and never even owned up to it.

Welcome to South Florida and the home of an ever growing population of rude inconsiderate drivers!!

I had been driving my 82 Supra to work for 20 years parking in the same spots and not even a door ding. A little over three days with the riv and a quarter panel screwed! Man it was soooo straight too.

    Okay I'm done for now.

Sorry to hear that, a lot of drivers Bump-Park simply becuase they don't know any better. Watched a minivan here hit the front AND rear car TWICE while parallel parking... and she didn't leave a note!! I had to play samaratin and get her plate...

I hope you keep a watch for "regulars" in the area with your paint on thier bumpers.

Well I know it was a white car that did it which down here narrows it down to about half of the cars on the road. I don't think my car transferred any color to theirs since it did not go through the clear coat.

The worst part is probably that I was no more than 25 ft from where it was sitting just outside the huge display windows in my store and they were probably a customer! ARGHH!

Keith, just reading about it makes my heart ache!
I'd be watching that parking lot for cars with scratches or damage that line up to the crease in the Riv.
And it adds insult to injury when the coward wouldn't own up to it!
Karma, they will get theirs someday! :blast:

    Pew that stinks!

    And only three days old.........geez.

Had it happen to me before...

That's fairly normal conduct everywhere in today's world.

Yep, happens up here too. I had a low mileage 69 Skylark 4dr HT that my first wife used to drive. It was perfectly straight, and had new paint. Someone whacked the rear qtr. under the body line. Didn't rip the paint, but left a nasty wrinkle. :af:

I'll tell ya, SW Florida is the worst. Mostly during the "IN" season tho. I can't even begin to count all the stupid things I see out here. A guy driving the wrong way down the parking lot, rubbs his tire against a co workers bumper (huge black mark) and with three witnesses all pointing to him... the loser still says he didn't do it. Cops... nothing there, not even a warning:blast:

I am almost afraid to start restoring the buick cause I like to drive it and if looked nice i'd be too afraid to take it out except for 3am. :Dou:

I feel for ya, You can't watch the car all the time tho.

Sorry to hear of your damage. It sounds stupid but in my experience if you can live with one dent you will never get another.Soon as you fix it the grim reaper shows up again. My vehicles(not the GS) have been either hit while parked or vandalized 4 times in the last 2 years. Not to mention my daughter denting the driver;s door on my new Silverado and my wife 2 weeks ago smashing up the front of the bed of the same vehicle hitting a chunk of ice going into a driveway. This happened while I was in Florida by the way.I foolishly repaired the door of the truck before this last event! The trick is to have an inconspicuous dent.Hard to get those!Best of luck-Rod

    I'll second that noton!!!

though.. when you live in the city the front-rear bump is pretty normal. you'll see BMW's and such with nicks all over there bumpers from the screw heads of licence plates.

I love the guy who parks illegally and parks in my car an inch from my bumper with his new (still temp plates) eclipse.

I shoulda pushed his car into the middle of the street with mine and speared his bumper with the crazy point these skylarks have.

though the amazingly tight turning radius of the skylark suprised me. think its tighter than my honda.

    Boiling blood!

    Keith:

Sorry that had to happen to your car. That really pisses me off.

Although not my Buick, I recently had a somewhat similar encounter.

I pulled into the local Border's and noticed an elderly couple approaching the adjacent car. I waited for them to get into their car before I got out. Needless to say, the passenger flung his door open resulting in a king size dent/scratch in my door.

I was surprised that someone would be so careless. He turned to see what he smacked into and saw me mouthing "Thanks a lot!" According to his nazi wife, I am rude and should be ashamed of myself. She even had the guts to ask me for some paper so she could take down my plate number.

I was really dumbfounded. Someone damages someone else's property and because "She is 65 years old" she is entitled to do what she pleases.

I drive a beater everywhere I go because of people like this. I bought my first new car 3 years ago and it sits in the garage. Even with only 10K on the clock it has a ding in the front bumper from one neighbor and ding in the tailgate from the other.

No one gives a shXX or takes responsibility.

    It really burns me up:af:

    Sorry to ramble.

The pic makes it look much less damaging. There is an eyebrow about 8 inches above the damage here. I am going to try working it out without damaging the paint. I had success doing a nasty door ding on my brothers custom Super Beetle which after I was done has taken two best paint of show awards at bug shows.

    I feel for ya man!!!

I had about the same happen to me about 10 years ago with a 72 Chevy c-10 that I had just painted the night before and wetsanded out that morning. Drove to the mall, parked out in no man's land, and when I came back out there is a nissan parked next to the drivers side. The door of my truck has a huge foot long scrape right down to the bare metal! :af:
Get this..... these idiots that parked next to me have huge amounts of my red paint on the edge of their door. They must have flung open the door before they even pulled to a stop!
I am sure they knew they did it......and I am also sure they will remember that truck next time and every time they part from now on. I took the door, flung open the door as hard as I could while pulling back....... about 10 times. I literally beat the poo out of their door. I don't take anything decent to the mall or any Superwhatever mart ever anymore. People don't care.....

A few years ago two of my buddies and I went to E-town to the N.E. chapter Buick day meet.Kevin helped me get the body done on my 70 GS and we primered the car to go there.I parked my car in the lot in front of our room and started to unlaod the trunk, when an old lady in a Caddy wailed the door open into my door.I peered around the side wanting to kill her.She had enough guts to claim she didn't let the big scrape in the door. She claimed it was there when they pulled in. when I questioned her the response was its just a little scratch!Thats what it was on their car when my keys miraculously flew out of my hands onto their car.:af: :af: :af:

    Hey Keith,
Too bad the car isn't up here. Don't know if they have them in Florida, but up here we have Dent Wizards. They take out dents without doing bodywork and they are nothing short of amazing! As long as they can get behind the panel, they can take out almost anything. When we have our Spring meet for The N.E. GS/GN club, we always have the Dent Wizard come by. The more cars we get, the cheaper it is. Might take a look in the phone book, maybe they have some in Florida, just a thought.

I have to vent with you as well. My wife hust bought a new Accord and within 1 week of owning it someone did the same thing. Only it was from the rear quarter all the way up to the drivers door. Glad I did'nt find out who the culprit was. They would have hell to pay! Anyways it cost me 300.00 to fix.

road rage? nah, parking lot rage.

i've experienced the same thing, only it was a fat dent near the top of my door and an SUV that drove away with no side mirror.:blast:

and i also hate the phenomenon mentioned above where you specifically park awya from other people and some moron comes and parks a foot away from you anyway. about the only way to avoid it is to park in the back and take up multiple spots, then you only run the usual risks of vandalism and theft.:af:

    buickdav Kris' other half.

the times when you catch them and they still deny it are the worst. i had one of those times happen when i was....ummmm, younger, and my attitude was......well. OK, i was just outa the Navy and had a BAD attitude , i just hated about anything that was human if that helps set the scene.

anyways we had this old dually shop truck. you know, the ones with the man killing bumpers on them that out weighed the whole truck.i think if i got traction i could pushed a train off it's tracks and not dented it. so we're at the parts store at like 11 in the morning to get something and we had just left the licquor store where we picked up a 12 pack for brunch. anyways so this old guy pulls in and catches the front of the door/back of the fender on the right front of the truck. NO BIGGIE to me. 1- it aint my truck, and 2- it was an old p.o.s. anyways, i just grinned and nodded. BUT this fool unloads on me about my inability to park correctly. so i affectionately as i could showed him he was "number 1" in my book. and then backed out. but instead of turning to the right to get out(angle parked), i turned to the left and took out both doors and the complete qrtr with the afore mentioned bumper. you should have seen him trying to get outa the caved in door that no longer would open. to say the least he was HOT ! and so was the truck after we ran it as hard as it would go to get outa town. anyways .... i "think" i have grown up a little since then and i would like to think i would handle myself a little better now but ya never know ???

thats one time i had a similar experience to the ones mentioned here. P.S. i was fired after that one. but i had to replace the fender and door on the truck first with some old crap ones we had at the shop.lol. well worth it at the time i guess.

    later.........................

Thanks for all the replies. I am starting to feel better. I worked on the damage for a couple of hours last night and got the eyebrow out with a hammer and dolly covered in masking tape. The scrapes came out some and it looks a whole lot better, but I will have to make a special tool to get down to the back side of them so I can work them out the rest of the way.

As far as the paintless dent repair guys go I watched one work on a door ding once and the only thing I saw different than doing regular hammer and dolly work on metal is that the tools are smaller and specially shaped to get to the back side easier and they use lots of lights and use light hits with smooth tools. I am pretty good with metal work so I think I can get it fixed to an acceptable level.
