They have written several stories about the rapid increase of steel prices and thus the demise of many old cars and whole boneyards crushing out and closing. The increased industrialization of China and also, India were mentioned as the main drivers. So be advised-a few of us boneyard boys in Mn/Wisc have seen enough evidence to support this-fewer yards/cars/parts and higher prices-
Yep....a friend of mine's father in law has a junkyard down by the Hudson River.......he said scrap prices are going crazy. Great if you're taking a load of metal to the recycler.......not so good if you're hoping to find parts on certain cars.
Yeah, we all need to help China become a real world power so they can march over us. Send your scrap to China... get it back in a bomb!
Last fall a couple of us had heard about a decent old car boneyard near Fergus Falls, Mn. We finally had a chance to check it out yesterday and found they had totally crushed out before Christmas-another yard gone.
It's the passing of another little peice of Americana. Future generations of gearheads are going to grow up never knowing the pleasure of spending an entire Saturday scrounging through as many yards as you can Went out to John's Auto today to see what they had for late model Park Avenues, need a bumper guard. It just isn't as much fun going through such a sterile, completely cataloged junk yard. I came out empty handed.
same thing here same thing is happening up here as well.one yard got bought by "pick-n-pull" from the USA.prices went up emediatly.some cars don't make it to the yard, just straight to the crusher (72 skylark/disc brakes).got told:too bad!! even after i offered $100.00 just for the brakes. our other yard closed for a month at christmas time so that they could crush everything in the self-serve area & start over.haven't been back yet (1 hr away). getting haeder all the time to find older stuff.i like to collect stuff to take to the local swap meets twice a year to support by buick habit.
