    Hello,
Im not sure if anyone remembers me (http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6640), but I joined a few years ago and made a few posts. While my buick has remained dormant, I have been working on a project motor for my saturn. Brief project specs/goals: 300whp via Garret T3/T04E turbocharged motor. 300whp & 2400lb curb weight...

Lately I have been getting the urge lately to ditch my saturn project and start working on my Buick. I am really unsure as to what I really should do, as each project has its pros and cons. I am only about 20% into my saturn project. If I ditch everything, I could sell everything for about $1500. I was informed of a place that sells remanufactured engines for my buick for around $1800. Thats pretty tempting seeing as though the (4) connecting rods for my saturn costs $700 alone!

One thing that worries me is my lack of knowledge of the big engine. While I am at one with my saturn's lil 1.9, I feel lost when I look at this huge 455. I'd love to rebuild the motor, but I think its size/weight alone will be a problem. LOL I carried my saturn motor in the house in my arms, and I am doing the rebuild in my bedroom (see pics below). I dont know if I'd be able to do the same with this engine.

Oh well, maybe one day I'll figure something out.

BTW, my car is a 1976 Buick Electra Limited.

Oh yeah, as an update from another thread I started a few years ago...I graduated last may from the University of MD, College Park. I received my BS in Geography/Geographic Information Systems. I am now a cartographer for the FAA, making aeronautical navigational charts.

Welcome back! I can't be the only one here who's had a Buick 455 block in my house before. It takes two to carry the block though. The Saturn project sounds interesting, but making a '76 Buick full size car go fast can be at least as rewarding, if not more so. It depends on what you really want in the end, but personally, I'd hotrod the fullsize.

Are you doing IFR enroute, WAC, Sectionals and/ or Approach plates?

I work in the visual charting branch, East Section. Specifically, I am in charge of the Jacksonville Sectional, Tampa/Orlando Terminal Area Chart, and WAC CF-19. Do you fly? I got my license back in 2001.

Cool. I will continue to weigh my options. If I can have things my way, I'd do both.

Yes both by wife and I have been licensed for many years. We are also licensed in Australia. I have woked with one of the old school contract guys on some special approach plate issues. He did Aspen as I recall. Interesting guy. He was a pilot for Eisenhour on one of the Columbine sp ? planes.

I have used your charts. Interesting and detailed work you do.

It's kinda funny. When I started the job, I had the impression that being a pilot and all, there wouldnt be much I didnt know. Boy was I wrong. There is so much attention to detail...it can be overwhelming at times. The only advantage I had was knowing all of the chart symbology. Thats pretty cool that the both of you fly. I only know of a handfull of couples that both fly. Nice cars in your pic. What kinds are they?

Doing them both sounds like the best deal.... If we only had unlimited time, and didn't have to prioritize our projects. ...I'd probably have 100 unfinished and ongoing car projects instead of 15.
