a friend of mine had searched, n thinks that engine parts from the oldsmobile 442 can be put on the buick 455 is this true?
The carb stud can. Not much else. Two differents engines with different bore and stroke. Starters are not even on the same side.
He said engine . If we are talking accessories the alt, battery, voltage regulator , etc. Also the engines are not the same cid which is the focus for the confusion that a 455 poncho= 445 Olds= 455 Buick. They just share the 455 designated number. I think I calculated the Buick is a 455.6 cid but the marketing department must have liked 455 and so forth for Olds and Pontiac with their engines..
Sometimes I really laugh about some of the things me and my friends thought about cars back when we were younger:grin: how about- aircleaner lid distributor cap thermostat (I think:laugh: ) When you put that together with the carb stud, bam! Four whole parts
uzzled: actually a 456 buick would have sounded pretty stupid !!!!!! :eek2: sounds good for a rear end gear ......... but not a buick engine  :Smarty: olds engine are 455 c.i.d. not 442 c.i.d. 442 is the cars name :Brow: it stands for 4 barrel carb 4 spd trans 2 exhaust :3gears: :3gears: :bglasses: :TU:
was in '64, in '65 when they came out with auto trans in 442, was changed to 400 CID, 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust. Hi everyone, Got sent over here by a couple of guys at TOC and just checking it out. Regards, Norm
Hi everyone I didn't think about it before but I wonder why it was still a 442 when in '66 it was triple carbs on a 400 with dual exhausts. Enough from me about Olds on a Buick site. Regards Norm
Well the 442 acronym was made up in 64 before triple carbs was ever given a thought for the 442. Olds last had three deuces in the old J2 set up around 57-58. In 66 three twos returned only as the rare L69 option --only about 2200 out of the over 20K 442s made that year. There were some also as dealer add ons but mostly 4 barrel cars were made even in 66. By 67 only 4 barrel cars came back. In 66 the L69 442 cars reigned supreme over the rival GTOs as they were the C stock champs but only a few of us remember. None of the GTO crowd can recall it at all.
The Olds I have seen came with different boots and were different lengths base on a different routing of the wires.
Or you can do what i did and place a olds 455 bored to 462 into my 75 buick century because back then i couldnt find a buick motor. I have found a buick 455 but havn't had the time to rebuild yet. this project started 11 years ago, before ebay. The olds motor is still running strong. It does have the c cast heads Mr lore. I love you guys and all your knowledge keep feeding it to us so we can pass it on. biggriff.
