Okay, I heard some where you could order from the factory "trumpet" style daul exhaust on a 1969 Cutlass S. Is this true? AL.
Trumpet tips were on 70-2 models only. 69 did not have the cutouts in the rear bumpers for the trumpet tips.
I stand corrected. I only saw 70-2 Cutlass/442/Hurst models bumpers w/cutouts for the trumpets. Never saw a pre-70 with them.
Trumpets The trumpets came out in 1968 and lasted till the 1972 model year. But as per my original question was does any of you rocket guys know if the 442 style rear bumper could be ordered on a Cutlass "S"? The reason I ask this is a good friend has a 69 Cutlass "S" drop top and I've been trying to talk him into installing the 442 rear bumper and he said he wasn't because they never came on his car. But I think it would look way cool on the ride :bglasses: Thanks AL.
I'll agree with that. The "swoop back" Olds A-body is the only car I feel looks better than a 68-72 GS, but the buick has a superior front-end IMHO.
If the guy is that nutted up about changing a plain-Jane Cutlass then he is hopeless anyway! They came on 442s that year. Maybe you could tell him it was a dealer-installed option on regular Cutlasses to ease his fear of offending the Olds-correctness police!
Trumpets Your more then likely correct. If I had that car I would do it and would not care about the correctness police. That is a bolt on option that can only improve the curb appeal :bglasses:. I think the real reason my be $$$$. AL.
well--the 68-69 stuff is starting to get more expensive as people are snapping up these models and the rear bumpers aren't repro'd to my knowledge (like the later bumpers). Also--it's a one year only bumper which doesn't help. He can always convert a regular Cutlass bumper if he has a 442 core with decent trumpet cutout areas and is handy with a mig welder...or make the cutouts from scratch for that matter. Patton
