Especially if it is a big car rear end that weighs a couple hundred pounds

I lived in San Diego at the Miramar Naval Air Station for 4 years (and they have a are known for snakes). Plus Alpine just outside of SD is notorious for snakes. And know I've lived in PHX for 4 years and I have never seen a snake. Did you hear about the guy that visited here, caught a rattle snake and took it back home to Wahwsington (state), he was showing it off to his friends the that he could kiss it, the second time he kissed it, it kissed him back and by the time he got to the hospital he was in critical condition, but he lived.

Dave, did you buy that Azure Blue 70 Riv in the pic while you were in San Diego from a guy that owns a 71 Cortez Gold GSX?
If so I helped install that 3.42 posi in it, as well as helped dag the posi out of a 70 Riv GS in Maryland

Looks like a handy little jig for a driveway swap Dave.
Could you post a pic of the setup without the rear?
Is it attached to the jack?
    Thanks!

I have to stop doing posts at 4:30 in the morning, the spelling was horrible on that post about the snakes! The Riv is actually a white one and a friend of mine owns it here in PHX. The rear on the dolly is the original 2.73 standard rear, the painted rear is a 3.42 posi from another friends `70 Riv GS that met it's maker.

The dolly locates on the hole that the removable saddle fits into on the floor jack, then I drilled and tapped a hole on each side to keep it from rotating. There is a bumper that is adjustable to hold the rear at the correct pinion angle and that contacts the housing just aft of the yoke. The supports for the axle tubes are adjustable for different rears, such as the Riv, that has the box for the torsion bar in the way on the pas side. They engage the axle tubes enough so you can use the jack handle as a giant lever if you need to muscle the rear into place. I also formed some abs plastic to sit into the supports to protect the paint on the replacement rear. I don't have a digital camera, so it may be a while before I can take another pic.

    Thanks Dave,
it sure looks azure blue in the pic but I'm glad it's actually white(I hate azure blue) I'd also love to see detailed pics of the "jig" as I'd love to build one myself, I can wait till you get access to a camera as I won't be tossing in a rear in the near forseeable future

I gotta confess I did this to my car with a big piece of ploypropylene. I rolled the rear end onto the poly with crappy drums on it, then dragged the poly under the car...when I pay a grand for a posi, I'm too broke to buy another jack...:ball: But hey, that posi's only a couple hundred pounds or so, right? Us Buick guys can handle that no prob!

When you get to be in the fifty year class even pumping the jack handle can be an effort Cris!

Thanks for the description Dave, I think I've got the general idea.
A couple of hours some night this week and I may be able to fab one for myself.:beer
Hey, maybe a new TA product?
    Thanks!:) :TU:

Just to clarify, I didn't make it permanent to the jack, it can be removed and the jack put back to it's regular duties in about a minute or so.
