Hi Ken, That is a beautiful car. The older I get the more I want a '70 GTO or '61 Ventura bubbletop. That car is just like the one on Two Lane Blacktop {photo attached} Is that your '69 in the back ground of the last GTO picture?
Yes Brian, good eye! My 69 will actually come to fruition in the Spring (if you can believe it). It's really close. I'll try to get some newer pics.
Exactly what I was thinking. :bglasses: We could have used that car on Monday! The owner of the original TLB camera car brought it down here so we could shoot it out at the defunct Lakeland Raceway where the track scenes were shot in the movie. We said it would have been cool to have a proper GTO on hand. Here's the GTO at Lakeland circa 1970. Not to change the subject, but for those Two-Lane fans, here's a couple interesting 'then & now' photos.
That's sad to see the track overgrown with vegetation like that knowing that at one time it had it's heyday. At the risk of sounding like a dumba$$, where exactly are the ruins of Lakeland Raceway? o No: ou: BTW, beautiful car. :TU:
In Lakeland, of course. Actually, the track is located just outside Memphis on I-40 east at exit 20. Check out www.lakelandraceway.com for photos of the remains, satellite pics, maps, info and tons of cool photos from the good old days. :TU: That site has evolved into one of my hobbies. :Comp:
Greg, Awesome before and after pics!! I have to ask, who belongs to that 55 Chevy? It looks as though whoever owns it, is traveling in a time machine...
Dohh! Brett, head on over to www.twolane55.com for more info. Folks, we now return to your regularly scheduled GTO thread. p
A fantastic site, Greg. A gold mine of history and a Grade A website. Oh to have a time machine right now and to go back and be a part of history. Again, Greg, :TU:!
I was half bustin guys. p By the way, for such a horrible movie (IMHO of course :boring: ), it's nostalgia factor outweighs it's quality shortcomings. :3gears:
