Hi all, I'm finally circling back to my LeSabre project. Looks like the motor needs a lot of work, so I am toying with the idea of doing a later model 401 with a more modern transmission behind it, torque tube eliminator kit, and an open driveline 3rd member. Just exploring the possibilities here and have not committed to any specific avenue. My question is, what are the years / models with 3rd members that will fit? I found an ad for a '62 Wildcat that is being parted out and may look into it depending on whether it fits and what the ratio is. Thanks!
I believe your axles are 31 spline. I also believe that '62 axles are 30 spline. I also believe that your axles can be re-spline d to 30. The ONLY removable carrier that has 31 spline axles that I know of are 1961. I have a '61 with 3.23 gears, non posi. Posi is RARE in '61. On another note you could use a full size rear from a 61-'65 with a removable carrier or from a Riv. from '63-'65. Can also use '66-'70 Riv. & full size. On ALL need to check width & control arm placement points. They should ALL have the panhard bar. Just more options & for the later rears posi is more readily available. Tom T.
For a direct bolt in 1961 and 1962 only will fit 1956-1960: 1937 - 10 spline axles (Series 80 and 90) 1937-1955 - 12 spline axles (Series 40, 50, 60, and 70) 1938-1942 - 13 spline axles (Series 80 and 90) 1956-1962 - 33 spline axles 1963-1970 - 30 spline axles 1971-1976 - 31 spline axles http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...arts-interchange-Monzaz&p=2110102#post2110102
