I apologize if this isn't the correct forum for this question, but I didn't know where else to post it. I'm looking at a 1970 Buick GS. This is a non-numbers matching car and the gentleman is asking $14,000. I've looked at a couple classic car price guides, but i was wondering if this is a reasonable price. Here is the description I have on the car:

True 1970 Buick GS455- VIN#446370. 8732 made- how many are left?
Very clean, very fast, true muscle car built the best year of the muscle car era! Originally rated with 350 Horse! 510 LBs of Torque! Just tuned!
Professional rebuilt 455 engine, September 2006 to 1970 specs.
Will include 1970 code correct Rochester Quadrajet carb. (not on car).
    400 Turbo Trans Automatic.
3.73 Rear end, 12 bolt posi traction. Will include the shift kit (new in box).
Very nice black paint, with black interior, new black carpet, no cracks in dash.
Original Buick AM radio works, wired for rear speakers (not installed).
Original AC car- disconnected, but included.
New weather stripping, all around. No rust. Will include original vinyl top trim.
Original 14 Buick Rally Rims and caps! Original spare and jack in trunk!
Era correct 235/60/14 Grand Sport Radial GT tires.
New trunk mat, & tire cover. Will include car cover as well.
Average NADA value (I know, but its a guide) is $19,000.
Not a show car- minor flaws- and not numbers matching.
I want a fast sale; own a piece of muscle car history!

I have also attached some pictures. Any feedback is definitely welcome.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I would look it over again. From what I see the core support could be rusted out under the battery tray. The trunk is consistent with one that is rusty but just paint over. I would really look over the wheel houses from the underside.

do you consider needing a new trunk floor a minor flaw?

    keep looking

I don't know what these cars go for but I'd be looking for a lot less rust if I was paying $14,000. I'd have to be suspicous when a guy states "no rust" when it's clearly visible on the core support. I also think a rusted through trunk floor counts as rust whether it was sandblasted and painted over ot not. All of these old cars have some rust somewhere. You hope its only a tiny amount on the surface of unpainted steel but when rust and rusted through panels are visible you can count on there being a lot more that you can't see. In other words, I agree with Jim above :Smarty: Looking quickly I can spot other flaws and things that look like someone did a cheap, quick resto on this car. Personally, I'd walk.

    Get it on a rack

Just look it over real good and make sure its not "a pig in a poke".
What does "not numbers matching" mean though, wrong motor and trans. and wrong rear end?

Get it on a rack and look real hard for rust and rust repair, like Jim said the core support in the batt. area and the wheelhouses. Get in the trunk and look up around the rear window where they rust. Look at the frame horns on both sides. How about the floor boards?

Somebody will probably buy the car for that price, might be worth it.
    Good Luck
    Bert

I would suggest you taking it to a Body shop[ of your choice and have them go over the car . Better to pay them a little now than you pay a whole bunch later trying to fix the car with your hard earned :dollar: !

Also , AFTER you leave the body shop you decide to possibly buy this car , check all reciepts , past and presant records . Remember there is more GS's out there . Take your time , do your homework and have shops do homework for you . Spend a little before or possibly a lot later !! :dollar:

    Good luck ! :beers2:

hmmm,. . . very interesting. . . I would THINK if it were a TRUE GS as the ad says, why are there no GS emblems on the door panels? Why is there no factory tachometer in the dash?. . (I KNOW guys...yes, it could be it wasn't ordered with one, but nevertheless). . .and altho its not real proof. .ANY TRUE 70 GS 455 I've seen had a sport wheel. .not a skylark wheel. (again, not real proof either way!! NO FLAMES, just making a point) OR this car appears to be a NON disc brake car?? (see pedal in pix) I THOUGHT all 455 1970's HAD disc brakes??? Anyone else?? ..just a few things observed. Its a nice car for a restoration project, but I just don;t think I'd pay 14 grand for a project to start out. . .JM.02CW! Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Wheelz, I'm not trying to be a smart-aleck, but true GS's did come without factory tachs (or gauges), without sport wheels, and without disc brakes.

Discs were optional on '70 GS's but were part of the Stage 1 package. It has a 12 bolt, which is wrong. It also appears to be missing the driver side GS and 455 emblems and has a Chico's custom interior job. If the trunk pan is rotted, probably some issues with the floors and other sheetmetal.

"No rust" is a nebulous term. In this instance it may very well mean "just slapped the last gallon of bondo in and hosed it down with acrylic enamal." Be careful.

My car came with non gs wheel, alum drum brakes, and no tach, non posi car also.

Do your homework Chris, having some type of auto body shop do an undercarriage inspection is a great idea. Get it up in the air to really check it out.

Disc brakes were Not part of 70 GS Stage 1 option.Only Standard with GSX in 1970 thats it,everything was optional on GS cars in 1970.
Disc brakes came standard only on 71-72 GS 455 and GS Stage 1 cars only.

WOW! YOU GUYS ARE FREAKIN AMAZING!!!:beer :beer :beer :beer ALL AROUND! I am not a "car guy" by any stretch. I like looking at and driving cars, but when it comes to the mechanics or knowing what to look for I'm the village idiot.

I appreciate every one looking at this and taking the time to put in their comments.

    Thanks again,

    Chris

Not to pile on but since you asked for the info , the radio is incorrect and the steering wheel does not match the interior. Tha suggests to me that the car was likely a color change. Get the code off the cowl tag . Black would be rare and would read "Pnt 19."

That does not look like a 1970 Buick GS interior to me. Door panels yes, but not seat material (both front/rear).
