I did not set out to build a clone, but since the car needed 1/4s and one fender I decided it had to have a GS hood and air cleaner. It is actually a 71, but it came with a 72 grille so I kept it. The car needs a grille emblem, but I can not decide between a GS emblem or Skylark. It will never be a GS and I really do not want to drill holes in it. Also thought about getting some GSX
1/4 decals and cutting the GS out for the front fenders. Then I would need emblems for the door panel and trunk lid. What do you guys think?

    TIA
    John

Nice car John! What ever you do, just enjoy it. It seems that it's already started to be a clone, so why not? It will look more agressive & sporty as a GS and turn more heads, but for resale it might bring a little more money if its built back to matching original. Hard to say, Its totally up to you. Really nice lookin vert

    clone?????? whasa clone??????

Back in 66, Ihad a 64 lark cpe. I wanted a 65GS. Couldnt afford it. I got the specs on a 65gs from Buick and proceded to build one. :Brow: I found a wrecked gs and bought asmany parts as i could from it. finally , I was in the dealer one day and I purchased the gs emblems and put them on. :pp
It is your car , you do what you want to with it. Then sit back and enjoy it. If some body comes along and wants to buy and thier price is high enough , sell. :bglasses:
BUT you will probably regret selling. :Dou:

    John,
Life is short. Build it the way you want and don't worry about what others may think. I think that you will find that the only thing Buick folks would be concerned about is if it is ever sold after being modified that it be sold with an honest decsription.
Good Luck. Nice looking ride. :bglasses:

Well, I built it to keep. It has been three plus years in the making. I am still not done, but it gets used (cruised and track time). Since I live in AZ my goal is to have it done by January. I take it to the BJ auction. I did not build it to make money. I actually built it to save money. I call it my "cowboys belt buckle" Ever wonder why cowboys have big buckles? So they could sell it if they were broke. I do not plan on selling. However, if I came out of the auction and found an offer I could not refuse it would be hard not to sell. As far as value goes it is not #s matching and has the wrong grille etc on it. So I think finishing the clone would only cost me more money rather than adding value. I do not show the car, so I have had no negative response. I will add that the only time someone has brought up the GS factor is at the race track. A guy came up to me to find out what it was. I entered it as a Skylark. The guy on the PA called it a Skylark. The guy who questioned me on the car wanted to set the PA guy straight and tell him it was a GS.
Anyway, you are right, it is my car. I just wanted to hear from some Buick guys. I guess I figure if I start adding emblems I should do them all. Looks like I already started adding with the hood.

I agree with all of the above and,I too posted in the other thread as well. Here is my advice to you so you can take it any way you want but I'm being honest.Your car will never get the money that a restored GS Stage 1 4 speed Vert will,so why not enjoy what you have. The pics show a very nice ride that has been personalized by you.(The one who drives it)If someone else is willing to fork over the cash so you can get a (Real?..gimme a break) GS then they can pay for you to have the car that they think you should have.I don't think that will happen, since I have been waiting 20 years for that to happen.I,personally don't really care if its a GS or not.It looks great.Always think of it as your car and that noone else should tell you what your car should have or be except you.Thats why you always see totally different cars because if we all had our choice,we would have 7000 GSX cars on here and nothing else.Do what you want.

I had a 99 Camaro Z-28 and I added SS hood, SS rear spoiler and SS emblems. I am an honest person so when people asked if it was a "real SS" I had to say no. I regreted doing it after the first time I was asked the "real SS" question.

I will make a suggestion though. Make your own emblems that way it is your creation and not Buick's. Just an idea if you are having any doubts.

the good thing about a clone is at a car show 90% of the people would never
thing it was not a gs! the other good thing is as a clone other gear heads can see how sharp looking the gs is. most origals are put in the garage for safe keeping out of the public eye

The people that know Skylarks will know the difference.

Mine started life as a 350-four barrel car, but now it has everything you would find on a GS (except the emblems) and some. :Brow:

I say finish the car the way you want it.

Do what you like, you're the only one who has to be happy with it.

I don't think putting on spoilers and stripes is "cloning." It will look like a GS, but without the emblems you're not trying to fool anyone.

Of course, it ALWAYS goes without saying for you to do what you WANT to do. It's your car. :TU:

In my "opinion" though, I think it looks really cool to see a nice "Skylark" like yours with the GS hood and that's all. Just the hood. No GS emblems or anything, only Skylark stuff. It kind of reminds me of the Cutlass SX models which were adorned with 442 style stuff, i.e. trumpet exhaust, etc., but all Cutlass emblems.

Either way it's a very nice car....I like the emblems just because they look cool :bglasses:

BTW I think I have an extra GS grille emblem if you want it.

It's your car.........if you want a GS, then build one! Just the way you wanted it. Just make sure you drill the holes for the emblems precisely so as not to make it obvious you have a clone. If someone asks, it's OK to tell the truth, and explain to them the real thing is hard to find and pricey........and what good is a "correct" car if you can't have your way?

It's the GS bells and whistles that makes a real GS so if they are all in place then you have a real GS. The only difference is that it didn't come from the factory that way. Besides, only the hardened Buick guys will know the truth.........so what? :Do No:

I agree that what makes people pi$$ed is when people try to pass off clones as originals and then profit financially from that. :bglasses:

Your car looks good, finish it the way you want.
I would leave the emblems off entirely and make everybody wonder which it is.
    especially at the track.
