PM sent. I have one in a box ready to ship but won't be back home until late afternoon tomorrow. Also I want on the list for one of the repoped GSX steering wheels. regards
Eric, That's great. I know you wanted a wheel in the past, if you still want one let me know. Bill, I am not sure but I think the 69 & 70 wheels are either 16" or are deeper dished then the 71-up 15" wheels I need. Maybe we could check that. The 71-72 wheels should be the 15" ones that I am looking for. Duane
Tom, They are approximately the same diameter, and have a round cross section like the 442 wheels, but the design is completely different. These wheels have the same "Madrid" graining like the vinyl in the 65-72 GM seatcovers and have a double row of fake stitching along the inside seam. The 3 stainless spokes bury themselves directly into the grip, while the 442 wheels have a small raised rectangular area where the 4 spokes hit the outside grip. The outside has a small depressed parting line with no chrome trim insert like the standard Rallye wheels have. These wheels were used on the 70 GSX and were also the optional wheel for the 70 Nova Yenkos. (I have heard numbers like 50% of the Nova Yenkos came with them, but have never verified that.) There are a few Original examples out there with the Ford 1969-1973 "Corinthian" grain (Like the 442 Wheels have), but as far as I know they never made it into cars. The only ones I have ever seen were NOS units. These wheels were the first 15" Rallye wheels ever developed, so I figure the "Corinthian" grained wheels were a version that was developed but never used. I always assumed the leftover wheels were stuck in the GM inventory and sold as replacement parts. Why throw out good parts. Duane
Interesting, thanks for the information Duane. I didn't realize there was a grain to it. From the photos I've seen on the four spoke wheels it almost looks like a neoprene wheel. I guess it's hard to get a good photo of it or maybe the grain is so worn it looks smooth.
Hi Duane, Have 2 wheels to send to you. Yes, interested in a finished wheel also when run is complete. Thank you, Eric
Tom, Yeah the 442 wheels wear really bad and usually look smooth, if you look at the innermost edge towards the hub you can see the grain. The Original 70 GSX wheel I have is like that too. The car had like 169,000 miles on it. Eric, send um out and thanks. Duane
Duane, I have one and I just saw this thread. I can get pictures if you want first, but I will be able to ship it early next week if it isn't too late. I would be interested in one of your reproductions as well. Please let me know.
