I have a 1972 Custom Vert w/ 125K- Been garaged when not driven, but the paint is in need of help-Factory blue-bottom below door crease had been repainted at some point-pinstripe breaks teh slight variation in shade.

At 20 feet, it looks shiny-Closer, and it still reflects, but is chaulky. I tried some Maguires ColorRX, which gave a slight improvement, but took two coats to get the swirls out from the first.

I took it to a detail shop (I don;t trust myself with a buffer) and they said they could buff it, but not advised as the paint had become too "thin", and the first time it got wet the polish would fade again.
I was thinking of Liquid Glass, as a alternative for now until I can get it painted-or am I better leaving it be until then- I never heard if that stuff works ! Or- is wet sanding at a professional body shop the way to go?
    Suggestions?

How about getting a couple of clear coats over the existing paint?? :Do No:
I've heard of that being done, but don't know the long term life span.

Liquid Glass is just a wax. Nothing important.

If the paint won't hold wax, I would consider not wasting time and money on a losing situation.

Hey Guys: My 65 Skylark was not only a few different shades of Green and was very dull. The paint on one of the doors was so thin you could see through it. No it was not a two tone. To get to the point. I polished it with Turtle Wax Color Cure. Evened out the color, covered a lot of scratches,Made the car shine. The young man I bought the car from came over and could not believe the difference in the finnish. I know this is only a quick fix and not a cure for bad paint.but it kept my car looking pretty good all summer while I saved for a real paint job. Car is at the shop getting ready for that new paint as I type. The best part is I bought the wax at the Dollar Store. That's All Folks! Dan
