My wife plays in a local concert band. They hold one very well attended concert in Naples Florida each month October to April on a Sunday. Yesterday was it's Veterans Day concert. Because this concert falls exactly on veterans' day every five years or so, this concert is normally attended by a large number of veterans - some even wear their uniforms. Yesterday a gentleman was recognized by the announcer as celebrating his 97th birthday on that exact date, and that as a Marine he was on the first wave that "hit the beach" on Guadalcanal. The man is now wheelchair-bound, but with a little help he stood at attention during the playing of the Marine anthem. He got a standing ovation.
They don't make men like him anymore. I'm not saying today's military men and women aren't as tough and selfless but can you imagine if there were a draft in this day and age? I'd like to think our young men and women would step up but I don't see that being the case.
No kidding. Can't the mods just delete the political BS so we can continue with the honorable intent of this thread?
Good, even if I was one of the offenders. Howza about this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.da...mer-prisoner-war-oldest-veteran-Cenotaph.html
