Is the Parts place the only place to get the Outer Rear Wheelwells, the problem being is I don't need the whole thing just the lip part that the Quarter is spot welded to. Can a chevelle one work. I know the flare is different but $199.00 for such a little amount of metal sucks (and I know I shouldn't complain at least there making them right.) but if anyone has some suggestions it would be awesome!!:dollar:

Todd, don't you mean inner rear wells?

I replaced the rears on my 65 lark. I had to sacrafice the whole part just to get the corner your looking for. And what year car are you talking about?

Sorry the year would probably help alot it's a 1971 Buick Skylark. The outer wheel well where the quarter attaches to it:idea2:

I think you need to post a pic of the area you need. Do you mean the inside of the rear wheel well, when you look into it? If so then that the inner rear well.

I know the 65 chevelle and lark stuff interchange. I don't know about the 70-72's though.

it's the lip where the wheel well moulding screws to

    Big Todd,
Let me tell you a story, when I installed the quarters on my car these panels were not reproduced and I had no originals laying around. I ended up spending hours & hours hand forming pieces and then welding the seperate pieces together to form the entire lip, before installing them to the car.

You can do what you want, but get ready for some serious fun.

So is the parts place the only place to get them? And what do you suppose the chances of a yard in like arizona having some that aren't rusted out? Zero?

By the time you pay for a used set (if you could find them), then pay to have then cut out, then pay to get them boxed and shipped........................................... then you get to seperate the panels from the quarters, and hope they have nice metal all the way around (otherwise you get to fix it), plus hope you don't distort them while removing the quarter panels,...............................

Like I said before, I have created new lips from flat sheet metal, and have recycled original pieces before, it's all up to how much time you want to spend.

    Big Todd,

Be very glad you can get them now. They weren't reproduced until recently and couldn't be ordered from GM for years. I had to spend untold hours fabricating the ones for my 71 GSX. The inner wheelhouse is the same on 1968-1972 A-body cars, but the outer is unique to each model in order to create a different body line for manufacturer.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

You need to post a pic of the amount/area you need.

Some members here will be scrapping cars and it does not take long using a sawzall to remove the outer wheel lip.

As Duane stated....it is tedious and very very time consuming. I have used the outer lips from 4 dr models with success but will not waste my time doing it again. I had to replace the full qtr skin so it made it easy to work on the fenderwell with the skin off the car.

Hardest part is getting the original wheel well off the orig quarter panel due to all the spot welds.

I "may" have a small section from the 4 dr I removed the outer wells from but I will have to look.

I also compromised a pair of parts place rear wheel houses for the lip areas and then some ....:Dou:

they are only made by the Parts Place and do fit well

and I appreciate that they make them ....:TU: TPP

The '68-'72's rear wheel wells are 2 halves welded together. The inner is what you see in the trunk, the outer is what the quater panel is welded to.

Wish they had been available when I did mine. Would have been well worth the money!

so does everyone weld in the new one at the halves or just cut and replace closer to the lip?

It all depends on what you need.

Also, I believe the outers that are reproduced are for coupes not convertibles. The seam between the inners/outers is different for coupes & convertibles, so if you have a vert, it would need to be sectioned anyway.

Thank you for clearing my noggin. I never owned a 68-72 so I was confused.

    Thanks

so is it worth it to get some from a wrecking yard?

I think the consensus answer here would be no. You really can't tell how good they are until you get all the qtr cut away. I don't think there are a lot of "good ones" out there in junk yards. How much is your time worth? For most of us, we bought the repo outer wheelhouse and cut off what we needed. I had my qtrs off and we used about a third of the new piece.

the lip is the first moisture rusting area's on our cars ...blame it on that spongy factory foamy sealant thingy whatchamacallit
stuff between the 1/4 and wheel housing lip ...
