Just changed the BBB's motor oil. Only the best for my Buick! Valvoline's DuraBlend outperforms all leading motor oils by exceeding the European ACEA A2 standards for volatility, wear, sludge, and deposit control, including the Peugeot high temperature deposit control test, which is recognized as a more severe test of the oil's ability to keep the engine clean. Wow, all that! OK the main reason I use Valvoline is because my Dad had a case of it in the basement. What do you guys use?
castrol gtx 20-50 in the summer and 10-40 in the winter...dont really care about synthetics or anything as the power plant in the 'lark is a tired 350!
www.bobistheoilguy.com is a great site to get the low down on, dino, blended and synthetic products. I use Castrol Syntec 0W 30 (made in Germany) in my 125,xXX mile 96 Z28 Mobil 1 5W 30 Trisynthetic in my 250,XXX 93 Volvo 240 wagon and Castrol High Miler 10W 30 in my 80,XXX in 68 Skylark
That's funny, since Peugeot and also Renault are promoting ELF oil products on their cars. Never heard of such a test, and a Google search didn't help me out on this one. This week I will have a look at an automotive shop to see what is written on the same brand bottles here in Europe.
I use mobil 1 in my caprice. I just tore it down after 170k of police and racing duty. EVERY component was still within original spec, and NO sludge was found anywhere. As a matter of fact there was slight wear on the bearings, and some light deposits on the pistons. The only reasons i'm tearing it down is I wanted more power, and there were a few leaks. (I guess you could say this is the bad thing about mobil 1)
I used to use Pennzoil, because Arnold Palmer is their spokesman, but lately I use Castrol because John Force is their spokesman. Hey, I support the brands that support my hobbies...
Rob I swore by Castrol GTX myself until I used their High Mileage variety 5w-30. It really helped the leaks and gave me almost 2 more miles per gallon. Worth the extra couple of bucks to me!
Doug, when i went to do the first oil change, my uncle (35 yrs of mechanics asks me)" whats your brand" So i went with whats good. I saw the higher mileage, but he said its all the same. Plus i have no leaks what so ever at 103,600 miles.
Kendall 10 - 30 in the GS . Quaker State since day one in 68 LeSabre and still using Quaker State myself . Pulled the timing chain last winter , saved it ... It looks like new . :bglasses: :bglasses:
I was once a GTX man for many years. But, now I am experimenting with others. Just recently tried the DuraBlend too. Thos full synthetics had a bad habit of dripping all over the driveway. Maybe the thicker weights would stay in the car.
I just started using Royal Purple 10W40 this year because I've heard nothing but good things about it. I found that on initial start up when its cold, I get oil pressure almost instantly now, which is very critical.
I use Mobil1 in EVERYTHING I own! This includes the race car, daily drivers, tow vehicle (15W-50), lawn mowers and Mobil 1 V-Twin oil in my 2003 Harley FLHTI
Used Valvoline in the S-10 I had back in the mid 80's. It got wrecked and I had to rebuild the engine as the timing cover got cracked which is the back of the water passage behind the water pump on the 2.8L which let antifreeze into the oil unbenounced to me at the time. (F(*ked up the bearings real bad!! :Brow Anyway, when I cracked open the engine it was as clean as new with 90-some thousand miles on it. No sludge, no deposits. (unlike that crap in the yellow bottle) I was sold on Valvoline!! :TU:
