I am going through bearing clearances in preparation for assembly on my 455 and I am concerned and looking for help. I have stock iron crank which I had polished and I have ended up with some pretty loose clearance best as I can tell. The polishing has left me with two distinct rod journal sizes. 2.2488 and 2.2482. When checked against standard bearings in new eagle rods I get 0.0025 for 1-4 and 0.0031 for 5-8. From what I’ve read here I think I can live the with the 0.0025 on 1-4 but I feel like 5-8 are too loose. I’ve been scouring the interwebs for .001 oversized rod bearings but am coming up empty. Does anyone know if/where I can find some? I see some references here but they are pretty old. If worse comes to worse I will just have them all ground to 0.010 under and move on, but if I can find some overs I feel like it should work?!? As always thanks for the help!
Unfortunately your choices are grind the crank or get the rods resized smaller. I'd prefer the crank grind myself.
I haven't seen oversized ,I have 001 undersized to increase clearance since stock clearances are too tight. Turn it 010 set up for 002/002
You guys are backwards. An UNDERSIZED journal with too much clearance needs UNDERSIZED bearings to tighten the clearance. A journal with not enough clearance needs an OVERSIZED bearing to increase clearance. The bearing size is measured by inside diameter, a larger inside diameter compared to standard is an oversized bearing. A smaller inside diameter compared to standard is an undersized bearing.
