Hi Fellas, I apologize if this thread is a little redundant. I'm looking to run 15 x 7 rims on the front and 15 x 8s on the rear of my car. Seems there are all kinds of opinions on everything regarding rims and tires. Just what to know once and for all, what's a good backspace for a 15 X 8 rim ? Will a P 295 tire work successfully ? And who now sells 15 x 8 Buick rally rims ? Thanks, John Biggs.

I just sold a set of 15x7 and 15x8 Buick rally wheels - the 15x8s have 4.5 inch backspacing and were made by Curt Mckim. Curt also made my current custom Buick super sport wheels - again in 15x7 and 15x8 with 4.5 inch backspacing. I run 245x60x15 tires on the front 15x7 wheels and 275x60x15 tires on the rear 15x8 wheels.

A 15x8 rim with 4.5" of backspacing will center the wheel in the wheel well. You can put a 295 tire on the wheel and it will fit in there without rubbing. But the tire will look a little bulgy on the rim. A better wheel would be a 15x10 with 5.5" of backspacing and that tire. Will still fit in the wheel well without any rubbing, but the tire will look better on the rim.

I've had them all on my car. I currently have a 15x10 with a 325/50R15 tire on it. You do need to trim the top of the fenderwell back some to insure no rubbing. And running airbags also helps to keep the back end from bouncing around much.

A 295 tyre is aprox. 295 mm wide.
    An 8J rim is 8 x 25.4 mm = 203.2 mm wide
So your tyre is 91.8 mm wider, this results in 45.9 mm of rubber sticking out on each side.

So Phil, if I understand you correctly..... you would be able to put P295s on a 15x10 rim with a 5.5 in. backspace with no rubbing, trimming, or any other modifications ? If so, I'm ready to go that direction, but who now would you get rims like that from ? Some of the Vintage wheel carriers out there are now gone. Any suggestions ? Thanks, John Biggs.

You can have them made by Wheel Vintiques or the other place that custom makes Buick ralley wheels. I'm having a brain fart on their name, but they're the ones that made mine.

Figured it out. It's Specialty Wheel. Here's the link: http://www.specialtywheelsltd.org/buick-wheels.html

According to the BFG catalog I have, 295 has a recommended rim width of 8-11", so 8" would be bare minimum. I have 275/60R-15's on an 8" rim with 4.5" B.S., and it looks great.

Yes, 275's look very good. That's what I had on mine when I had them. I tried the 295's and they looked very bulgy to me. That's when I said what the heck and got the 15x10's and the 325's.

Did you go with 295's and 5.5 back space or 4.5?

I run 295x65x15 Mickey Thompson ET Streets on my GS with 8" rim ..4.5" backspacing.

I went with a BFGoodrich tire. Now I'm currently waiting for the 15x10 rims from Specialty Wheel. The backspacing is 5.5 in. Should work well. John

thanks. i tried (295/65/15) with the 5.5 backspace on a 15x8 rim and its touching on the inside seems to be too much back space on my car. I will try it on the 4.5 back space 15x8 rims i have and see.

I don't believe a 5.5 in backspace will work with an 15X8" rim. With a 15x8 rim a 4.5" backspace should be used. John.

4.5 will work as mentioned, or you can just run 1inch spacers

Doesn't the kind of rearxle affect what kind of BS you must have to make the tire fit?
