Paint or no paint?

I spent the better part of a couple of days taking a part and cleaning the insides of the under dash portion of my 1970 Skylark a/c box. Now that the parts are reasonably clean, I was thinking about shooting them with some clear paint to keep them looking good. Any opinions on whether this is a good idea or not? I don't want any of the doors sticking or bad things happening due to the paint getting too hot in the heater core box, but I also don't want to have to ever clean these parts again.

Any recommendations of what to do with the rubber parts of the doors; is there something I can coat them in or put on them to clean them and keep them soft?

    Thank you...Gary

You can clear the metal parts.
I would use a rubber moisturizer on the seals and you are set.

George, Thank you for the reply. I cleared the metal parts and they came out great. Can I find the rubber moisturizer at an auto body & paint supply store or regular car parts place (autozone, napa, etc?) I am heading to the auto paint store in the morning to see if I can match up the fasteners that hold the a/c box to the firewall. Thanks again...Gary

The moisturizer I use is called Speedy Shine and works great. You can also use Formula 2000. Don't use Armor All...won't last.

As for the fasteners....those are special 7/16" hex head screws with captured washers.....I doubt you will find them.....if not, I should have all you need.

    Let me know.
